Default Linkert M74 B

!941 Knuckle. So even though I keep marine grade stabil in all my cans and bikes, I think the knuck sat a bit too long. 6 months? This carb has been flawless for the 14 years I've owned it. I dropped the float bowl to check if all was well. It still had the brass float so I ordered a new bowl that comes with the nitrophyl float, new needle and seat. I didn't take everything apart but will most likely do so. The immediate problem is this, see pic, fuel blurps out of the spring area of the low speed needle. That needle was untouched so why now? Thoughts from the linkert experts???

I would look inside the end of the carb to make sure you're not flooding the engine with a leaking needle. I've reused original needles and seats because the Taiwan ones can leak. The new float can bind as well. My 48 EL did exactly that.

The first thing is you could have asked - but the v twin stuff is a challenge as its almost but most you can get it to work if you know what to do

stainless float valve only as original - my guess the throttle shaft and bushings top and bottom are shot - and today we o ring the Venturi its a must to do 80 year old carb is not able to meter all the air by passing it - we also sonic clean it and drain all the fuel if not using a collectible

Thanks guys, definitely not flooding as the plugs and intake are bone dry. This was after about 20 kicks. Somethings up so I'm gonna take it all apart to check everything. Also a good time to check the throttle shaft bushings as you said John. I'll post later when I know more.

Well, took everything apart, inspected everything, cleaned and reassembled and still have 2 problems. No fuel to the cylinders and gas burping out of the low speed needle spring area. It's never done that since I've owned it. Kinda pissin me off because that's not a complicated carb. Takin a break from this....................

My thought - the float level is too hi low needle fuel coming out < rubber tip needle does this also

the Venturi is not sealing the air from by passing it — but check your valve adjustment a tight front intake can cause a interruption in flow — and brass intake seals are always a thing - peek is the only deal today that works but i have tryed the white nylon and they seem to be fine as well

picture up the float bowl upside down in picturing the float 180 from the needle valve so i can see its location at the needle stop - 1/4 inch is what we are looking for and a taste forward float itself for correct center when your on the throttle pulling

its a simple unit and all it wants is to be correct in assemble and sealing

So I checked and float is at 1/4", this is a new float and float bowl from Bob at Good Ol MC parts. Needle seals when upside down. Float is not binding, I can hear it move freely. I've reinstalled it and will finish filter and such when time allows, ironhead is taking my time away. Update later.

Do you have the float off center per the manual? If you center them they can drag on the side of the bowl.

I would also suggest a bubble test of the manifold, if you have an air leak it will make starting the bike very difficult.
