Just my 2 cents.. the key is, since the lifters extend fully during disassembly, you have to slowly bring down the rocker shaft bolts ( after having made sure the lifter is on the heel of the cam lobe) to bleed the excess oil through the weep hole of the lifter so as to not bring the shaft down off center on the stanchion. If you don't, you run the risk of the shaft contacting the leading edge of one side of the stanchion, pushing it outward and , cracking it as you force the shaft into the center of that stanchion.
Just ordered an ultra limited black quartz.... will arrive on April.. my SGS 2015 was good but was difficult not to do an step forward specially pretending to hit the road with my dear... all seems excellent with the M8...
Yesterday i was riding my 2017 Road Glide Special when the bike started losing power,so as im trying to get off the road it starts making a god awful knocking sound, then as i go to shut the bike down it backfires and makes a loud pop and white smoke starts pouring out of the exhaust. Has anyone else had this issue or heard of such a thing. should hear something from Sacramento Harley on Monday or Tuesday. Thanks Cannon!!!!!

Sounds like your motor lost a piston pin clip. Pin walked out, broke one side of the piston and upper rod lost connection to the piston.. In technical terms the motor went Kabloowie.

Man that sux! Curious as to what they find when they get to look at it.
After reviewing 39 pages of 386 posts spanning 6 months, it looks like there are only about 6 posts concerning actual M8 problem. I know that not all M8 owners have posted their problem in this thread but only 6 different issues in 6 months compared to how ever many M8s have been purchased over that time span would have to be a very statistically small number.
I would say your chances of buying a new M8 and having a problem, are no greater than having a new problem with your current ride. JMHO.
