I was doing the same thing with mine. Unfortunately it failed on the second day. The dealer said they typically fail right away if they are going to. mine is all fixed and the stage 4 kit is fantastic! It's a quick fix if they have the parts.

Hmm..so are the most recent '17s coming from the factory with the fix already done? I was thinking about waiting for the '18 models to get a new RK. But, all in all the '17 M8s sound pretty amazing and I am getting tired of waiting.

"fix already done?"

they haven't put out a recall or anything if that's what your asking. I don't know that anyone knows if it's happened to an extremely small percentage of 2017 M8s or a large percentage.

I do know more than a handful of M8 owners who don't read forums and are extremely happy with their bikes and they aren't worrying about their oil lights every mile they're riding.

On the other hand, It really does suck for those people that have had oil pump problems. And it sucks for people who read forums like these and assume there's a huge problem.

The truth of the matter is probably somewhere in between the two extremes.

If there really is a systemic oil pump problem it'll be published sooner or later.

I don't have a lot of experience with Harley, but for motor vehicles in general, not every defect results in a recall, especially if it affects a low number of bikes and does not present a danger. My car, for example, has a situation where, for many owners, the seat wobbles in the base a little. It is annoying, not dangerous, and their are new and improved clips that are standard on the same cars, built later in the year. (new part number). When I took it in and described the problem, the dealer found a "service bulletin" and fixed the problem free of charge... but there was never a recall or even a publicly acknowledged problem.

So, I was wondering if something similar might have happened. There was talk earlier in the thread about new part numbers...

I was told there is a new pump with a different design. Even though I had a problem with mine given the choice I would definitely buy the bike again. If you are concerned about it when you buy the bike ask the dealer to change it to the new style. Might cost you a couple of dollars but also gives you piece of mind I guess. The new bikes are amazing and I wouldn't wait because of a "possible problem"

I've had mine for about 2 months. 1800 miles and absolutely love it. No problems as of yet. Hopefully none in the future. I'm confident there won't be...unless I just jinxed it. I did read something about a recall but I think it was for a clip holding an oil line. It was on fox business website I believe. Idk. My wife sent it to me.

Well, if there is a new design for an oil pump it would probably be two new designs... there are two oil pumps now, one for oil cooled bikes and one for twin-cooled bikes.

Yes, there is a recall out now. There are threads below that spell it out in detail - in short its for the clamps for the oil lines to the oil cooler on oil cooled bikes.

Well it seems my bike is fixed. To recap after almost 8000 miles without issue oil was being pushed into the air breather and ultimately dripping onto the engine. First trip to the dealer they replaced both breather valves. Same problem after 400 miles. Did a leak down check and all was good. Work was put on hold to wait for Harley tech inspector to arrive. That took 2 weeks. Before they opened it up a second time the inspector took it for a test ride. He ran it hard and without letting it idle pulled it back into the shop and shut it down. They pulled a plug on the bottom end see if oil was being scavenged properly after high oil flow. Nope they drained almost 3 cups.

I spoke with the inspector and he showed me the oil pump and it was pristine. He did point out the o-ring on the scavenge side of the pump looked like it may have rolled and cocked during assembly but couldn't say that was the problem. He also said he'd have the tech pull the cylinders and check the piston squirters as on a number of early builds (mine) they were torqued to the low end the of the spec. Mine were found lose.

So was it the o-ring or the lose piston squirters or both? IDK for sure but I'd lean toward the piston squirters. A cocked or rolled o-ring would likely have caused the issue quite some time ago.
Well I spoke to soon! My bike is back at the dealership for the exact same issue. Still pushing oil into the breather and ultimately dripping onto the engine. They called the tech rep back and sent more pictures. I've put about 650 miles on it since the last repair attempt and I'd say the rate at which oil is getting into the breather is unchanged.
The service manager called today and asked if I would support them swapping in a new M8 107. Harley would like my complete engine back as apparently a few stage 3 and 4 engines have experienced the same issue. Oh well it's better than a sharp stick in the eye and continuing to dribble oil all over my engine.
