Puttnut did a cam install on his new Fatboy. Had a 100 miles on it. During the swap he measured the cam spacer and gave out some good info.

Not sure why there would be such a difference in spacer thickness on a new bike with an HD cam swap but this was some great info because I would have never checked.

First install cam spacer and then reinstall both sprockets, take the original bolts you removed, removed thread lock from the threads and tighten both sprockets to 20lbs. Place a straight edge on pinion sprocket and measure gap at cam sprocket with a feeler gauge, If it's more then 0.23mm, you need to change spacer, mine measured in at .30mm so it's off to the dealer tomorrow for a thicker spacer. Nite all

Yes you need to check this measurement. In the several cam changes I have done on TwinCams, I can only recall one time I had to use a different spacer. Checking doesn’t take long and if you do need a different spacer you will save yourself some future misery.

By all means get the upgraded bearing, shim kit and sprocket bolt kit. If you don't use the the shim and bolt kits return them.

I received an email from George's Garage today saying the cam bearing install plates will be available January 12th.

I was going to buy one from Jims but keep forgetting to call them. Their price is $275 so I'll wait it out for Georges. I wonder if he has a backlog or if I can get one immediately. I better call and get my name on the list if there is one.

Good info. I took the liberty of printing out & saving the instructions in PDF format, in case anybody else wants it (see the attachment).

Hey guys, I need a little help. I started my project of changing the Cam on my sport glide 2018 and forgot to measure the stock cam depth before I pulled it. Is there a average depth for the new cam bearing? I'm changing it to the Woods 22X. Now I'm starting to really sweat it. Saw a video on YouTube from Fat Heads but I want to make sure before I get myself in more trouble.

If you use a bearing install tool, it will seat the bearing to the proper depth. I bought a tool from George's Garage that worked perfectly.
