2018 M8----Sumping? Failures?
I agree with everything stated above. And with all those “ifs” consumers have to make a decision. Are the risks worth it for the expense of a comparatively expensive motorcycle vs the alternative brands. For alot of folks, its worth taking the chance. For many folks, they don’t even know of the risk. And for many others, its just not worth the trouble.
I fall into the last group having been through the tortuous process of having my brand new bike tied up for almost an entire riding season. Based on the significantly declining sales of the M8, many others have also fallen into the last group. Each potential customer has to judge the risk vs the cost and so long as they have some insight into this ongoing engine defect than no one should be faulted for the decision to own a new Harley... or the risks they decide to avoid by not buying a new M8.

LOL. Good for you. Sounds like you're OK which is good to hear. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.
But you'll need another 38 points to catch up and solid 8 figures to teach me anything about finances.[QUOTE=Heatwave;18002609]huh? anyone bragging about how filthy rich they are and their off the charts credit rating shouldn't be suffering from "the tortuous process of having my brand new bike tied up for almost an entire riding season."
hell I'd have several, and sure as hell wouldn't be wasting this much of my life spewing incessant farble garble on the internet even if I did still have a problem bike, which you no longer do...Very Interesting

But you'll need another 38 points to catch up and solid 8 figures to teach me anything about finances.Funny how you had no issue with DrBuick referencing his credit rating and wealth before me but somehow my response to him was a trigger for you? Some of you guys have really got yourselves tied up in knots.
Its pretty easy to look back now and critize the guys that were dealing with sumping before we even knew what the hell it was. The first version of SB1450 wasnt even published until late July 2017. Before that date owners had no clue exactly what was happening with these engines, let alone that the entire engine might need to be replaced.
So yeah, its real easy to be self righteous about guys dealing with sumping before we even knew about this defect. Its easy for the guys going to a shop for an upgrade now, knowing that they might be at risk of not only voiding their warranty but also having to replace an engine ....or 2.... i certainly didnt sign up for that risk when I bought my M8 and decided to have the dealer upgrade the engine.
Had I known what I know now, I never would have signed up for the aggravation by buying a 2017 CVO, let alone upgrading the engine.
I refuse to feed the trolls as they're obviously so very well fed. I blocked them all mostly as they're not harmonious with my way of life nor my values so it's upon thee my brothers.
But I do sneak a peek sometimes before I sign in just to make sure you're feeding them well. And yes you're feeding them so very well.
PS. I hope I haven't derailed this very on track post.
So I'll say it once more only, my dealership that I've just retired from has never had what you fellows refer to as sumping .We know it exists and we wish it didn't we've made some changes. Warranty is taking care of bona fide case and my heart goes out to those needing warranty. It's a small thing in reality numbers wise but very much alive here on the E-net.
Peace be unto thee.

you missed the point..you stated you went thru a torturous riding season with a bike laid up which makes no sense..must not enjoy riding that much if you can afford a spare but chose to sit the season out..find that very odd..I'd have been riding one way or another come hell or high water if money was no object
The engine on my brand new bike, fully upgraded by the dealer for the trip, sumped and failed in June 2017 before anyone knew what the hell sumping was in the M8. My dealer and HD scrambled to get a new engine in the bike in time for my trip. They pulled it off and got the new engine shipped and installed 3 weeks before my trip.
2.5 weeks later, the second engine failed from sumping. During basic breakin miles before I was to leave on my trip. By this time HD was already on their second version of SB1450. But now, with only 3 days before my long awaited and planned trip. I had to scramble to get my other bike serviced, tires changed and prepped for a 6000 mile trip. I got my 2010 bike back on the day I was leaving on a 6000 mile trip.
It wasn’t about money. It was about a manufacturer that was clueless about why their newly launched product was defective. Supposedly after millions of miles of testing. So I left on my older bike (with 65000 miles on it) and had a terrific time on a dependable TC. Far more dependable than my M8 had been in less than 5000 miles. So forgive me for being less than ecstatic about the dependability of the M8 engine design.
But I’m sure you could care less about these details. In fact it’ll likely be used for more personal attacks. So feel free to go for it. No sympathy expected or sought, just sharing the facts surrounding my multiple M8 engine failures.

Just another example of Heatwave's lying bullshit. Constantly contradicting himself. I doubt he even owns a Harley.
