This is my first post..So I apologize if I am hijacking a thread .
I have a 2018 GunShip Gray CVO 117” that is Stock, I bought it new with 8 miles on it. It had the 1000 mile service at about 945 miles and now has 1,400 miles. Yesterday the bike had all of the symptoms of the Service Bulletin M1450.
The dealership test rode the bike and said it had all of the symptoms of wet Sumping. It’s never been rode hard and is all but new. Symptoms ; No Power! Very hard engine braking, like a Jake brake on a truck. Also a smell of Oil. It did not have oil coming out of the breather. And I have checked the oil regularly. We have 3 HD's in the garage and also have a motorcycle lift. I just use it mostly for detailing the bikes. But, I do check fluids on our bikes frequently.
When I left the house yesterday, the bike had a solid oil level. With out any leaks, the bike's oil was low on the dip stick when the dealership checked it. He said, my oil was in the crank case and not returning to the oil pan.
From what I have read it seems to appear with Stage 3 or 4 installed. I don’t have anything but a stock 117”
I’ve owned so many HD’s and this is a first for me. Pistons and cylinders are being inspected in a few days.

Not a good first post !!!! Would had been nice to hear from you with in the 1,400 miles you have been riding. Plus this Thread may not be the best to start on, at times this one gets a little off topic. Good luck.

Thanks,
Sorry to hear of your sumping troubles. I’ve been there and it can be a frustrating experience. The good news is you at least identified the problem while at home and during the off riding season.
It sounds like you are doing the right thing. If you can be at the dealership for the engine inspection, it might be worth it. Take pics/video of the crank & rod rotation. If the tech determines there’s any undue “tightness”, HD should be authorizing a new engine. They need to do a full inspection following all the steps in SB1450. Good luck.
I'm just looking for some help. I'm not on the computer very much and to be 100% honest, I only got on this forum because of what is going on with my bike. I know that some people live and breath the HD forums, no offense to anyone, but that's not me. I just need some solid advise and I felt like I could find it here. I'm kinda sick to my stomach right about now!

This could be a stupid question, but can they inspect the pistons with a compression test? Or do they need to remove the top end and put there eyes on the pistons?

I would definitely want their eyes on my top end. Compression won't show possible wear that might not have effected compression to date. Besides, you paid a grip for a CVO, I would want a complete and thorough inspection of my bike. You found it early, good thing.

Following the SB for a sumping engine, the dealer will pull the cylinders to inspect the Piston Coolers and get a feel of the rotating assembly. So, yes they will be inspecting the pistons and cylinders up close and personal.

Thanks for the reply, really do appreciate it. I'm just getting home from work and I went right to the computer to see if I had any advise. This is pretty depressing to say the least. I owned a lot of Harley's and after reading a lot last night, I can't believe that I haven't heard about this before now. I also talked to most of the guys that I ride with and none of them have heard of this problem. I'm kinda worried sick about the motor...

Thanks for the reply, I really do appreciate it. I'm tore out the frame right now and fell like getting in the bourbon bottle. Saturday, I will go to the HD shop and talk to them in person... Thanks again!
