I'm in agreement with Hellonewman. I think HD has a problem with the M-8 bikes as far as sumping & trans fluid transfer. If there wasn't any problem, HD would never have put out a service bulletin. I don't know how many bikes are affected but I believe it's far more than 0.25%. IMO, HD doesn't easily acknowledge problems with their bikes. They're more likely to make running changes to parts to cure a problem than to admit that the problem exists and recall bikes to fix the problem. I had a 2009 FLHTCU that had a compensator that made terrible noises. It took 2 years and the right service manger to get HD to upgrade the part. During that 2 year period, HD had decided to replace the original comps with the SE version for all 2011 touring bikes. Never admitting any problem. A similar action was taken with the water (coolant) pumps on the 2014-2016 twin cooled motors. Within the last year, they came out with a kit to use a different pump (same as 2017 & up) and eliminate the thermostat. Even when saddlebags were falling off due to defective fasteners (2014 & up) it took HD more that a year to issue a recall, probably because it was a safety problem. Right now I ride a FLHTK with over 100K but I'm in no hurry to move to a M-8 until the sumping & transfer problems are cured. As far as the number of bikes affected, I don't think you'll ever know. HD will never release that number and you can't go by what the dealers say. I've personally seen some dealers say they've never heard of a problem while another dealer knows all about the same problem. It all depends on who you talk to.
Some of you are hilarious. "The MOCO has never come out and admitted they had a problem"!!!!! Do you know how stooopid that would be for any company? What do you think the moco should do? Send out the CEO and have him kneel on a cheese grater begging you for forgiveness?
They are NOT ignoring the issues. And BTW money does matter. Seems like it is necessary to remain a viable company.
OH yeah, shocking enough..... Most of the people don't hang out on talk boards.
And damn all us "stooopid" people for having an opinion
If you have a stoopid opinion make it known on Online forums. It's harder doing in on Talk boards.
I had a talk board once. Thing never shut up so I milled it down into a pencil for Blottering which is about the same thing as having a stoopid opinion on a forum but instead on paper.
