That is TOTAL BS right there! You must own MoCo stock or work for 'em.

Also, they have to know what's causing the problem and how to fix it for the "great warranty" to be worth ****. In the case(s) of sumping and tranny oil transfer they DON'T.

HD AU told their dealers it was just under 1.2% that was for sumping though, no idea about transfer wasn't mentioned , most of our dealers have never had one sump, the worst my local had was a needle bearing ending up in the sump of a bagger.

18,000 miles last year on mine, of which 13,000 was up to Alaska and back on one 10 week ride. A few issues, nothing that a HOG tow package, Credit Card, a great dealership network and a credit card wouldn’t fix.

Enjoy the ride, ignore the NaySayers.

Sorry to hear if you have an issue with your M8. We have 2 and few friends have 17 and 18 M8s in our group haven't had single major issue with the exception of few minor hand controls and couple led lights.

I’m not sure if you don’t know who you’re responding to or if you’re just being facetious, but he has (jpooch00) made it very clear he neither owns an M8 or plans to own one. He just loves to bitch!

If oil has collected in the sump, and you shut the bike down, the next cold oil check will probably show it as being very low, since the pump didn't have an opportunity to scavenge the sump and move the oil back where it belongs. Which will likely lead you to fill up the bike, which is in fact over-filling it, which could lead to all sorts of problems.

A hot oil check seems like the only sane way to check the oil on an M8 which is suspected of perhaps having sumping issues. Let it idle for two minutes, which should theoretically give it a chance to get all the oil back where it belongs.

Just thinking about it, it makes sense. Any flaws with this idea?

You don't know that. It may be an accurate statement. We would have to know the source of his assertion. But just based on the number of reported cases of sumping here, it would seem like actual observed sumping cases are more like 0.000000001% of the bikes on the road. (because the odds of someone's bike sumping, and them doing internet research, and reporting it, seem a lot higher).

How many members are there here, and how many have reported sumping? Do the math, it's not a big percentage.

And as badcooky reported, HD AU has told their dealers that 1.2% of the M8's have reported sumping. AU is not a huge market, but Australians own more HDs per capita than Americans do, so the ratio could well be accurate for the US market too.

Also, they have to know what's causing the problem and how to fix it for the "great warranty" to be worth ****. In the case(s) of sumping and tranny oil transfer they DON'T.
Yet. The warranty is good for at least another year for most '17 owners, and nearly two years for most '18 owners.
