I ran the hose to the back of the bike past the rear wheel and installed an oil catch can plus lowered the oil level a half quart and it seems good to go. If and when I have a big bore kit installed I'll have them install the seal then.
originally they didn't come with the seal, only when Harley came out with their new one with a seal, did they add one to theirs.

Possible clarification… the S&S oil pump kit does not come with a seal, but is machined to use one if applicable. You still need to buy the seal from Harley if your application requires it.

When my 2019 cvo sumped I had a ss 475 cam, stock oil pump and no seal, my bike was an early 2019 that did not get it from the factory. HD put a new cam plate and the seal in and left the same oil pump, at this time the new 8 lobe pump was not out. I can say the seal stopped my bike from sumping again, and it sumped over 60 ounces into the crank so I am definitely a believer in the seal. My bike is now a Fuel Moto built 128 with the new 8 lobe pump and seal and zero problems and runs like a champ! Guess my point of this is to say, if I were running an aftermarket pump that had the cut out for the seal then I would absolutely put one in it.

In the second paragraph of section 4.6 of the 2017 touring service manual, it states the "displaced air in the crankcase is vented through the crankshaft roller bearing into the cam compartment". That was printed before they put a seal on the back of the oil pump.

I am curious what the later models service manual says now about venting the crankcase with the oil pump sealing off the bearing.

The 2020 manual states exactly the same still; however, we know it's pretty much sealed off to some extent (to keep some amount of pressure in the crankcase to keep the oil return feed positively fed), and that the crankcase also can vent through the cam bearing.

Any pressure the Check M8 is relieving, which has already bleed out of the crankcase into the Cam chest/Oil bag/heads, obviously doesn't do anything to help with sumping but does help eliminate a ton of oil vapor in the air intake.

Yes, not much air going past the needles in the cam bearing, so the crankcase is basically sealed off.

I had my bike pulled apart to see if my S&S oil pump had the seal and it did not nor did the pump backing have the place for a seal. My bike is a 2020 Road Glide with a 124 S&S kit. I didn’t know that the OEM pump would fix previous issues but anyway I swapped the pumps and added the seal. No more oil spray everywhere!

And for some unknown reason, S&S will not sell you the pump cover, without buying the whole pump. (as in ,you bought a 1st gen pump and wanted the new cover) If their pump was $100.00 I would understand, but it isn't!

RIGHT! I tried that and I had to get a new pump. If I had known this was going to be such a process I would have left everything like it was but I’m telling you I feel the bike running better. I sold the other S&S pump to help with some of the cost lol

Seems like an instant money maker given all they would need to do is drill a hole and put a one way valve in - hell they make the trans cover.... How could they pass that up? Explain like I'm five.
First off anything that is vented from the transmission, contains no products of combustion (pollutants) Same as the differentials on most vehicles on the road. Venting the engine crankcase to the atmosphere is a violation of EPA regulations. That is the reason why Harley, or any other manufacturer doesn't sell a device to do this. Technically we are law breakers ,defeating the venting system that comes installed on the bikes from the factory.
