Default Oil Pressure

I'm not a mechanic, is there a low oil pressure sensor that will shut your bike off, sitting at an idle my gauge will read zero and I know my oil level is full, and I've had my bike stall out, I was told I may need a new oil pump

No. Few cars even have that. You need to add a signature line for your Harley, year model and all the letters.

Most Harleys are very annoying with a gage. Better off without one.

What does it read at 2000 -3000 rpm or so?

Is light coming on at idle?

It's a 2000 UltraClassic FLHTCU-I, the oil light doesn't come on, oil level is full, @2000-3000 RPM my oil gauge reads around 25 PSI after it gets warmed up

You say your not a mechanic. I'm not a mind reader. Reread post 2 and answer and do all of it please and I may elaborate some more with proper info. It's free if you want it.

I think the reason why HD removed to oil gauge from the M8s is because it was generating too many unnecessary services. The oil pressure jumps around, and can drop low at idle. If it’s reading what you said..it’s fine. Btw...what oil are you running. I wouldn’t run synthetic in a 10 year old bike. That could result in oil use and lower pressure.

I run synthetic in everything but my jeep. In my rebuild, it had what I thought was a lifter tap. When I did a in-frame rebuild do to and over heat do to a freeze plug hidden behind exhaust manifold, I did it on the cheap since it's a toy for summer no top hobby vehicle.

I was careful getting all clearance to minimum . Piston to cylinders was to maximize but with 300,000 on motor, it would have had to be bored for .03 over.

Turns out, when hot, the lifter tap was actually a piston slap. It only does it with 15-30 synthetic. Its fine on regular 15-40 motor oil.

If a motor has bad seals, it going to leak on anything. 90W gear lube will leak out of a gear box in a heartbeat.

Granted, synthetic may make a 3" in puddle in a week that regular oil takes a week and a half. But who's counting..

David, check to make sure your oil light works with key on and engine off. Replace oil filter with Harleys black proper one. It cools better then the chrome one!??? Ha. Just kidding about black or chrome..they are the same.

Make sure your oil is proper grade in your owners manual.

That oil pressure you are seeing at 25 is the relief valve working and as designed. The low pres at idle is also as designed since I am pretty sure you have a TC. It does not want above 12 or so and is designed into it so it does not cook oil at street lights sitting still.

If you sill fill inscure, after doing the maintenance I suggest, get you another gage and screw it into light sending unit and check.

I bet all is good. If it really didn't have idle oil pressure, the lifter would leak down and tell you by pecking.

if lack of oil circulation was severe enough to cause an engine to actually bind up and stall at idle the damage would be extensive and noisy

i suspect there here is nothing wrong with your bike

roller bearing engines do not require the pressure needed in plain bearing applications

early HD manuals mentioned that the oil light ( gauges create worry)can “flicker “ at hot
Idle
ride it
