Time for my 1K service. I can't decide if I should run HD dino and Formula+ in the other two holes for warranty issues, or use M1 V-twin, Formula+ for the primary, and M1 75w-90 in the trans. Most of the dealers suggest HD products. I want to use Mobil 1 after the warranty is off. Should I switch now or wait until after warranty. I will not be using Syn 3 at all, ever. I don't want it in the trans, and if I'm going to use synthetic oil in the engine, I will use the much better M1 product. How does the Formula+ compare to M1 75w-90 in the trans? Help, I can't decide!!
Mobil 1 V Twin is a better oil than the syn 3 is and they can't hassle you about anything if in the event there is a problem due to lubrication. If they insist on you using their oil, then they have to furnish it for free.
If you are not using HD products you will need to bring your own oil in for the service, or better, do it yourself. I was using Formula+ and just switched to M1 75W90 in the trans. After about 800 miles the trans seems to be getting smoother. No clutch issues with the M1 V-Twin in the primary either.
I'm also getting close to the 1K service and was thinking the same thing (Mobil 1) ... I hope TCSTD is correct ... I may ask the dealership this weekend just to see if there is a hassle coming.
Unless the oil you intend to use (Mobil1 ) in this case does not meet the requirements of the manufacturer as far as service code designations, THEN there could be a problem, but in this case Mobil 1 is superior to the syn 3 that the dealer sells being a full synthetic (group 4 ) compared to a group 3 oil that syn 3 is.
Take a look and compare the service codes on the different bottles of oil and you will see what meets the warrantee and what doesn't. As long as the service codes MEET or EXCEED what the manufacturer recommends, they can't say a thing about what oil you use regardless of what they try to push on you.
Personally, I use Snake Oil in my bike. It's better than Mobil 1, Syn3, and my bike runs exactly 100mph faster on top end. I just love this oil forum, LOL!! [8D]
Doesn't matter as far as warranty goes as long as the properties fulfull HD's specs. Read the Magnusson-Moss act.
