Default Oil Pump Bolt Broken

Never fails, as soon as I am almost done with something, it has to take a turn for the worse. My last step before putting my pipes back on, and I break off an oil pump mounting bolt.

I was installing a Kuryaken chrome oil pump cover, and it called for 100-120 "inch" lbs of torque on the bolt. The key word being inch, and not foot. I broke it off in the oil pump mount. Can this be removed without removing the oil pump? Hoping I can make this a quick fix, but somehow I don't see it. Any help would be great!

Take the other 3 cover bolts out..then take a vise grips to the broken one...sometimes common sense outweighs a Torque Spec ..especially with Alu.

Here you go ... http://mactools.com/SearchResults.as...Text=extractor

Snap-On, Matco and others make extractors, too.

You don't want to use a cheapo extractor. You want to do it right the first time.

Why would you try to extract when you can gain access to the "stud" after removing oil pump cover ??

Overtorquing a bolt puts stress on the bolt at the point the threads make contact. 'birsling' can consider himself very lucky to have the bolt break only the head off. It is unlikely he has much of a 'stud' left, but if so, that's wonderful. Common sense would tell me that if I have something to grab onto I am going for the vise-grips.

Good luck!
