Default Pan Am OEM tire life

Does anyone have enough miles on the Pan Am with the stock “Michelin Scorcher Adventure” tires. to be able to comment on tread life? I’m curious how they would hold up on a 10,000 mile trip that includes interstate, twisties, some rough paved, and some gravely hard pack. Probably 5% hard pack gravel, 20% rough road, 75% decent condition roads.

if not now, it would be cool for people to comments as they roll on the miles.

Hopefully they'll be 10,000 mile tires. With that said, the rear 80/20 tires I ran on my GS/A, regardless of brand, went about 6,000 miles.

Then again, I'm hard on tires and have never had a rear tire on any bike I've owned go past 9,000 miles.

Plan time and expense for new tires even if you make your 10k, you'll need tires by the end of it. But I'd expect no more than 8k, I'm pretty easy on tires as I don't ride like a hooligan much and we have flat straight roads here in the Midwest and 8k-ish seems about when I always need to start considering a set of tires.

Default 6000 miles

I've got 6000 miles and mine are almost done. I might squeak another 1000 miles out before replacing the rear tire. I wish the made Commander III's for it.

I got 19-20k on my stock tires. Techs were surprised the tread lasted as long as it did each time I'd go in for work/warranty. The tread on the tires violently started going down near the end of that and I had to switch em finally. Those are some of the longest living tires I've ever used. Lots of city pavement, Texas hill country twisties and hours of off-road/dirt road paths were eaten with them

As I type my bike is at the dealer getting a new set of Mitas E07+ tires mounted. I have a little over 5k on the OEM and probably could have gone to 7K+, but I am leaving for a 2,500 mile trip next week and wanted new tires for the ride. 30% of my riding is off-road MABDR, thus I also want the 50/50 tires.

I just had to replace the tires on my Pan America Special. I had 6300 miles on the bike and was on the wear bars on the rear. I have less than 400 miles interstate on it. 85% of my miles are twisty curvy mountain roads in and around the Smoky Mountains. Maybe 100 or so miles off road. I don't ride easy, but I don't ride real hard either. Same style riding on my 163 HP road glide and I get 12000 miles out of a rear tire, Dunlop American Elite.

Those Dunlops AEs are a formidable touring tire. They do everything a street tire needs to do pretty darned well and last supremely.

At 5k on the stock PA tires, I'm probably a at 40% left. I will expect to need to change tires mid season or at least by end of season. I have a set of Metzler Karoo Streets to go on it. They are a 60/40 tire and get great reviews.

Well I finally got my Mitas E-07+ Dakar mounted today. I haven't had a chance to go off-road yet, but they do take some getting used to while riding on tarmac.
