So..............got the handlebars and drilled tapped for running the lines inside the bars. Can't tell from the pics but I am running the riser caps plus the riser cover to like seriously make sure that the bars don't crack or whatever they might do being smaller in diameter. I had to repair the bars on my 49 EL project because the bars were cracked at the bottom where the wires came out. The big honking accessory light is going yo be used as the neutral indicator. I'll be running the 65^ two-post neutral switch. The lid is OEM but '59.

I'll be posting up a wiring diagram shortly in order to get some feedback and ensure I've got it correct.

Also.........since I am running a neutral switch I am in need of the insulated post (Bakelight washers and such) that you see in the picture of the dash plate assembly so that I can drill the dash plate and set it up properly. Anyone having any laying around they want to get rid of, or anyone having leads is m much appreciated.

Thanks John . 59 models I believe had the extra neutral light one the left side upper side of the dash plate cover and used a single-wire neutral switch. Don't see too many of those around. Not sure what year they went to the 3 light dash like that used on my 65.

That's a maybe, let me do a little digging. Won't have the hex head in 8/32 but think I have a colony repop terminal strip for behind the coil new, may be stuff on that still, just have to find where I stashed it.

Looks great, but I gotta say it, no internal throttle cable!?!?!? The cable hanging off the bar is going to look out of place. Seems too late down the road to get bars setup like stock with a spiral, maybe you could modify for an Exile Cycle internal throttle kit? I have one on my Wide Glide for well over 10 years, real nice unit and cleans everything up nicely. Just cut a couple of inches off the end of the bar, I installed with a mechanical connection, not welded, never moved once.

Not trying to give you more work but I got a thing for clean bars, carry on, thanks for taking us along for the ride.

Damn, wish I'd seen this before and I agree but I'm not going back now. Gonna keep the info for the 49 Bobber build if I go away from the stock bars. Might be cool to do some different bars (bit taller) and use the internal throttle for both sides. Can it function as advance/retard as well?

So hers a couple of pics of the wiring diagrams I made up to use for the build. The relay is bolted into the base of the battery box. I made up a tray for the battery to sit atop the relay. With the frame mounted seat the top of the battery will be almost unnoticeable. Just gonna take some figuring to make sure the wires are run cleanly. Using the terminal box behind the coil for a junction.

PLEASE NOTE: If I screwed up the wiring diagram please throw down the advice. Used pics from several years of bikes to get this result. Primarily relied on the 67-68 diagrams plus pics John posted early on.

Adding a post for the neutral assembly. The dash pate assembly is OEM two-light set up that I had in my stash and had it restored, as is the speedometer and dash pate cover. The later style (3 light dash) would have been nice (and probably easier) but I did not want to put out the money for a correct one and aftermarket just doesn't sit with me

Tried to be as specific as possible and label everything. Big reason being is that I am In California and the bike will end up in Florida. When they lived in Venice it was an easy jaunt to head south and fix whatever ailed the bike (her dad wasn't a wrench and my sister is a great cook so it was well worth the trip). Until she learns what she needs I figuring that she'll need to find a trustworthy wrench in the Daytona Beach area where they now live (and if anyone has someone who is solid I'll pass the info along).

...Just noticed made a mistake. The headlite housing is grounded to the lower triple tree and not the handlebars.

Cool,

I'm curious. What are you using for wire? Standard insulated PVC or the new cloth covered stuff? I'm looking into rewiring some of the 65 pan and parts of it are original and parts have the PVC stuff..
