On my 57 frame I guess on the position, just checked now and its 6.5" like the manual says, lucky me.
Rather than measure from the tank mount since mine looked messed with I put the tape measure against the bottom of the steering damper lug on the neck forging. From there down to the center of the front u-bolt nut is 10.5" .
We make sure the rod is not tight on the tob just enough to rock the trap and it moves before it does anything
lube everything that moves real good is the best way to start
with primary outer off make sure when the lever is pulled the clutch basket stands still / we turn the engine with the plugs out to that loose spot so its not being influenced by a tight chain on compression stroke
the last thing we adjust is the lever leave it all loose till the end - the main spring we heave the lever cable on with play - as the stop location is the same
while every one will tell you mikes video - a yes but not all the time what he does work like he shows - for 10 different reasons
I've just kinda floated it on so everything cleared and moved freely when dealing with mousetraps. Never looked at one of those as having to be in an exact measured out position.

Running these custom controls rather than the stock type (my niece needs them closer), and it's gonna be a tight fit. Figure that the rod needs to be as close to parallel with clutch release lever for as straight as pull as possible.
..and they just clear the Cycle Electric voltage regulator that is attached to the end of the generator
Yeah that one is going to be a bit of a dance I see. All said you are doing some sweet work on that bike.
Thanks Dan. Figure this is my last rodeo for this bike. Just trying to make it as clean as possible so that when my grand-nephew comes of age to ride it (after his mom), it will still be reliable. Have a ton of pics and notes to go along with the build (when finished) so that for my niece, there will be no doubt about what was done to give her the best I can deliver.

One of my granddaughters has the bike bug, really likes the 1200 sporty line, 17 now. Had the conversation with her and the father while I was there last month. We get moved up north, she stay's on the path she's finally on and we may end up riding back to Missouri from south east Washington together if dad is good with it.
