I occasionally use a backpack that slides over the sissy bar and I just noticed it is affecting the paint. It has left a hazy white area on my fender(softail) and it doesn't wash off. tried a clay bar. still no luck. suggestions?
Is the bike denim? It looks like the paint is flat-not shiny in your picture. If this is the case rubbing it out will not work like it would on shiny paint.
Start with the lightest polish you can find. If that does not take out the marks go heavier. If that still does not get the scuff marks out you can go with 1500- 2000 grit silicon carbide(wet N Dry) sand paper and work backwards from where you left off with the coarse to fine polish then swirk mark remover
Thanx guys. My paint is Black Pearl. I tried a Turtle Wax polishing compound I had laying around.I was thinking it might just be the clear coat also. It did help but did not take it all out. what should be my next attempt? How do I "go heavier" before going the sandpaper route?
you can get different grits of polish, fine, medium and heavy, but be carefull! we wouldn't want you to burn through. If toy are polishing by hand you shouldn't worry. Usually polishing by machine will result in a burn through with heavy polish. Go to your local autostore and ask for fine, sanding polish, put some elbow grease into it. For a medium polish you might want to an abrasive cleanser we used to use in the body shop called "COMET". the next step i to work backwards removing the heavier grit scratches with the finer compound until you can finish with the turtle wax detailing compound
