Default Black Denim

I have a 2012 Black Denim FLHX and I was wanting to take off most of the chrome small pieces such as crashbar, horn cover, etc and either have them powder coated or painted. I am sure they are plenty of guys that have done this already. In your opinion, does it look better to try to match these items with the demin PC or have them painted in a gloss black to give it some different texture to compliment the whole bike? I can see where it would probably look good both ways. Just wondering and maybe somebody has pics to show the differences.

Thanks,
Sam

I gotta tell you painting Denim Black is super tough. The HD paint supplier is PPG and my buddy is the area manager. He supplied me with the paint for me to paint the Road Glide fairing I installed on my FXDF and had me bring it to one of his custom paint shops that shoots a lot of custom bikes and cars and let me tell you it took them 12 test panels to match the color and texture of the HD Denim Black on my bike. The deal is unlike the shinny paint you only get one shot at it. You can't simply color sand and buff it to match a finish texture. So for me I would do the other peices in a shinny black or gun metal grey as a contrast. This is the direction I am going with the chrome. I have one last thing for Dougs to paint and that is the bags which I just ordered from Calvary. I am hoping they come out as good as the fairing did.
BTW, I just dig you bike!
Bob

My opinion FWIW, your bike looks great the way it is. Ya need a little Chrome to set off the Black.

we stock a color match to your paint in powder... use it all the time!!!
no question powder is WAY stronger and more durable than paint, here are some pics of our match

Default Thanks

Thanks Bob,

I been throwing the idea around with painting the gloss black for the contrast and I have seen it look good on some bikes.

Tallboy, thanks for your reply on looking okay as it is. You know how we can't leave things alone. Always gotta change something.

JRK5892, If I was going to try to match the bike I think the powdercoat wouild probably be the way to go for a more durable finish. Only thing is you are along way from Louisiana and the down time would quiet long unless I could come up with some spare parts and have those coated and then just change them out when I could. Will keep you in mind.

Thanks to all of you for the replys

we do stock alot of parts for an exchange program... we have customers all over Louisiana that send us parts... sometimes the shipping is worth the quality of work and knowing it will be done right the first time

Well, I have my bike in pieces (2010 Denim Black SG), and it's all ready to to get powder coated. Since i can't ride for a few more months following my 3rd back surgery (L5-S1), I'm stuck and just don't know what direction to go with...... Denim, Satin, Gloss. Hell, I even have a few Wrinkle parts (both trans covers, and cam cover) they were on my 2008 Denim FatBoy (wife's now) since all the black wasn't "girly" but now i'm not sure if i want to keep them or go with a different color for contrast. I don't want my bike to look like a spray can blew up all over it!!!!.... I've seen a few pictures, but i don't want to coat them and regret the color. Once it's done, its done!
