Default Frame on the bike I bought is blue... :(

OK, so I just picked up an 89 Sporty for $1400. It is blue all over. Frame, swing arm, tins... I will show you... LoL. Anyways, I'm up here in NJ and I told my friend in FL to buy it since I'm moving back down in two months. Haven't seen it myself but my friend took some pics so here they are. He said it looks like a can-job on the frame/swing arm and maybe something a little better on the tins. I just know I want it black and I was wondering if I sanded off the blue on the frame/swing arm, what kinds of ways I could go about doing it cheaply and it hold up. I just need it t be black and not blue. I dunno what that guy was thinking. Maybe it was the drugs. Suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Anyways, here are a few pics of the bike...

all depends on what kind of paint is on there... but i would start by pulling it all apart get the motor out, strip and blast the frame then decide if your going to go black or blue on it... i am guessing that you are going to go black of course i would advise powder coat

There was a time here in the UK when doing that sort of thing was quite popular. Vincent twins and Velocettes would appear all dark green, or dark red. If done well it can look wonderful IMHO, although the choice of paint matters a lot. I saw an all powder blue Sporty many years ago, an iron head, with matching blue heads and barrels. Paintwork was immaculate and it looked stunning!

Wait until you see that one in the flesh.

persoanlly i dig the blue frame... just change the rest of the crap around it... rare to see a color'd frame on a HD... most peoples "builds" do not involve tearing it down to the frame

I dont know you but if I was gonna stipr it down........I would hardtail or widen/lengthing the swingarm and monoshock it, also wide glide frt end lower it fron and rear, then rattlecan the wholething, throw a set of n2 or 4's and beat the **** out of it.

If everything is in good running order for $1400, I wouldn't care about the color. I wouldn't waste time repainting, and then find out bike is a money pit.

Run it for a while and see if you even like it.
Good luck

I actually like the frame matching the tank & tins. I'd leave it unless they did a crappy job painting. Also agree with Ron, make sure the bike is worth the effort before you decide to repaint.

Im with these guys... Not a bad looking bike! Youll probably like it 200% better the instant you throw on a solo seat.
