honestly I have no experience with that method and I really doubt it would work. I have half joking because I heard some hillbilly talking about doing it. He spoke like it was the most logical thing to do.

i have grown up in bike shops and heard about the freezing thing hundreds of times..i have never heard a first hand story about it.. i would try, but check on it every hour or so.that much area is going to freeze slow, not like it is going to freeze solid and ruin it in 20 minutes. i have seen an oil pan on a boat bent all up from the block freezing full of water, but that was left go all winter

I'd love to send the parts to you and have them powder coated, but no $ for that. Maybe once I get tired of the paint job I'm doing I will go that route. I did take your advice on the paint to use though, and will post pics when its all done.

The harbor freight stud welder is awesome. I had to hold the button down for about 2 seconds which is twice the max that the manual says to use, but it worked great. The first stud I welded too long and put a tiny hole in the tank, which I soldered up after bringing up the rest of the dent. 2 seconds is about the right amount of time to hold the button down, which is twice the max the manual recommends. Now I'll probably try to sell this thing on craigslist even though its awesome, maybe I can get most of my money back (dont say return it Im too honest for that). A little bondo and I think it will look pretty good. Just dreading sanding the rest of the paint off and then re coating the inside of the tank (and im even more glad that I decided to order that stuff now that I put that little hole in the tank)

I don't know about gas tanks, but I did freeze my dirtbike head pipe and the dent came right out.

Take it to a body shop have one of the guys pull it on the side..Maybe 50 bucks at the most..You can mud/sand it yourself.Nothing wrong with bondo/mud whatever you want to call it.

I ended up getting the harbor freight stud welder for like $90, pulled the dent no problem, and then sold the welder on craigslist for $60. Not a bad deal. I need to get some pics of it now, but I already ruined the paint on the tank with some gas so I need to re do it.
