I'm looking at replacing my compensator (making noise). I've been seeing articles about eliminating the compensator with just a sprocket. What are the pros and con? Tks in advance
since your crank is pinned it would probably put too much stress on it, Baker makes a compensator kit and remember when you put the last spring on the concave side should face out towards the shifter lever. Just replaced my auto tensioner with a manual 1 from Baker also. No noise now and picked up my torque
I'm running a Drag Specialties 21 tooth compensating sprocket and chain kit in my 2003 dyna and it's NUTS....lol
My friends call it "Stupid Quick". Of course I've done a few other things to it also.
But back to the 23 tooth. The shovel heads ran a 23 tooth and you can still find them at the parts stores or on eBay, along with a Baker Fat Shoe. They fit and work prefect, WITHOUT any extra noise.
Honestly the best way to go is a compensator eliminator sprocket. And don't let some ******* tell you that you can't do that. ALL PRIMARY BELT DRIVE SYSTEMS ARE DIRECT AND WITHOUT ANY KIND OF COMPENSATING FRONT DRIVE PULLYS !!!!!!!!!!!!
Rock, I used a 21T on my '03 TC88 Dyna with great results as well, however your bike uses a different design of compensator to the later TC96 and the OP's bike, your 23T won't fit. Early comps are trouble-free, later ones are trouble-some, hence Baker's new design.
i have a 2011 ultra limited with 101,250 miles i have put 4 compensator gears in it the last one was the new upgraded one about 30,000 miles ago i have always had a very noisy primary i have used the new harley auto chain tensioner and chain too tight and used the hayden one and chain too tight and both was very noisy. saw the new southern oregon hb125-07 wedge for 129.95 ordered it and was very easy to put in and chain not tight at all. it has worked very good and very quiet all of the time. bike has never ran this good or as quite. cranks better and has more power seems like. i am very pleased with this product. it was noisy for about 50 miles but is very quie now. i would highly recommend this product.
