Default Clutch Release

when you are taking off. Where does your clutch start grabbing taking off? 1/4 way from the bar. 1/2 way from the bar. 3/4 way from the bar?

Depends on the bike, cable clutch or hyd. ? Hyd. clutch the engagement is most the way out on the level and no way to adjust it, cable you can tweak it in, usually 3/4 or is where I like mine.

3/4 away from bar. do you pull all the way to the bar or somewhere around 1/2 way.

I have mine so it is almost all the way out before it engages. The clutch is fully disengaged by the time the lever is halfway to the bar. I have as much throw as possible without burning up the throwout bearing.

To the bar always or you'll still have plates dragging and pressure on the throw out bearing, as Mark says the farther out the engagement the better for the bike. Tweak yours out a little more, with a cable bike you should only have about 1/8" or so freeplay gap where the level goes into the housing before the level tensions up.

Mine starts to grab at about 1/8 of the way from the bar and is fully engaged at all the way out with some freeplay as per the service manual. I like to have a long friction zone so I set my initial cluch adjustment to close to 1 turn from bottomed out.

As this thread demonstrates, person preference in the controls is just that, personal.
My clutch is cable and it's modded. (Has the EZ pull device.)
Makes dor a 40% less lever effort, while still offering full lockup as before. Oh yeah, the friction zone is wider too.
I like my clutch to "break" fairly early in the lever travel, this way I only pull the lever part way to shift.
