Primary/Transmission/Driveline/ClutchFind answers to general powertrain, primary and transmission. Have clutch issues and need suggestions? Post them here.
This has probably already been answered, but haven't found exactly.
For the life of me I can't get the bike into neutral using my foot. If I reach down and use my hand while in idle, I can get it into neutral. But, that is not an acceptable way to do it, and it sure ain't cool to do it at the stoplight! The bike shifts smooth as butter, so it seems like the clutch is adjusted properly -- hate to jack with it any further.
Any idea as to why I cannot get the bike into neutral???
It is recommended to leave the bike in gear, when at a stop sign or light, this makes for a faster get away, if some one comes barreling up behind you. I don't put mine in neutral unless I am parking. I use the kill switch than click it into neutral (unless I am on a slope) than I turn off the ignition.
If you have the toe/heel shifter, it is usually easier using the heel to find neutral when the engine is running.

Yep, I agree with you about leaving in gear at stoplights, BUT there are times when I can safely put it neutral (and save my forearm). Heck, just sitting in the garage when working on the bike. Just bugs me that I can't.
My experience with this issue was resolved by proper primary chain adjustment and the correct amout of primary fluid.....too much fluid will make hitting neutral more difficult.
Hope this helps, good luck

I'll bet you're using harley oil in the trans??
Use a gear oil like mobil 1... 75-90 or 85-140 and you will probably find that it works much better.
Coolray, to be honest, I never thought to check that the oil level wasn't too high. Guess I better do that!
And, Glide, you're right, I'm using Syn3 in all three holes, only 'cause the previous owner did and I haven't changed fluids yet. Been thinking about changing trans fluid to Mobil 1 or Redline, just didn't think it would make that much difference. Think I'll give it a try.
Taterdog, Glide is correct about the gear lube. Dump the syn3 and get Mobil 1 or Redline. I am presently running Redline for the first time, so I wont give you much of a comment on it, but I can tell you that Mobil 1 made a big improvement in shifting for me. I ran the 75/90. I changed to Redline simply because I have heard so much about it, I couldnt resist trying.
Anyway, between those things, I bet ya fix the neutral problem.
Good luck
Ordered mine from the same place.....quick delivery and good prices. Im running the MTL in the primary and Shock Proof Heavy in the tranny. I understand about the Mobil 1 and the ease of locating it, if the Redline does not work well for me, thats what I will go back to.
