Default Rode right by..

I have always been a trip oriented person. Enjoying the journey as much, even more than the destination at times. Looking down the rivers crossed. Wondering about ruins passed. Last year my brother rented a bike and we made a loop thru AR where I live now. Told him then, sad part is we are passing right by so many cool spots to hike into. Figured he didn't pay 200+ bux to go hiking.

Was like this in the Smokies area as we worried about all our stuff strapped on our bikes and we went into the woods to see waterfalls or whatever.... no negative experiences there by the way, stuff was fine. We did work in some pretty long hikes in the big bend area as well....

In our travels we hit the minor or secondary roads as much as possible...unless looking to cover a long way or thru an area previously explored. Museums, history natural attractions are my thing. Scenic lookouts always call me.

Just thoughts after discussing possible trip plans with some folks. As that time of year is/has arrived. Hurry to hit the city life, or explore the hidden trail?

Arkansas is close to me. Any recommendations for a short three-four day trip into AR?

Just this thought about leaving the bike with stuff strapped to it. I've been riding and touring for fifty years now and have never had anything stolen from the bike. Lucky? Maybe.

But I will say that while out walking around my good stuff is locked in the bags or tour pac. That bag strapped to the tour box rack is filled with dirty clothes.

Other times I tour with a rather muddy looking KLR. Grungy looking tank bag and black and mud covered nylon saddlebags. Across the rack is a combo fly & spin fishing gear bag that's covered with road crap too. Everyone know how cheap KLR riders are. So I think the thieves skip my bike and look for an Ultra Glide. (joke)

Anyway I've made over 25 trips to the Smoky's in the last 16 years. That KLR takes me way deep into the woods for fishing. I've always found it safe.

Thanks road king Q for comprehensive information about ride possibilities in AR. You are a real ambassador for your state and motorcycling. (Too bad your response is invisible for me for some reason.)

awwww! honey!

didn't see you query

That says most of it. You want to stay in alcohol towns? Lot of dry up here. Most cities are not. Can't help with bars, sorry. No experience there.

Talimena, Hot springs, Mt magazine, if you have good visibility... Petit Jean if you have time.

Ozark area up the pigtrail, 23, to Eureka springs area, tons of loops in that area of great roads.

Over to Boxley Ponca valley, hike in to lost valley, not on saturday, too crowded. elk are out if not too hot. Jasper is good. Round top on 7 is interesting plane crash site. A little debris still there.

7 will take you back toward hot springs or follow the buffalo river back toward the east, 74. 123 is for sure a mt road.

quick loop, but harrison over toward Mt view has some great spots as well. Rush is cool, old abandoned mining town, springs. Blanchard Springs is excellent for a swamp kid, the cave is great too.

I have a friend who had his bike raided while at Scotty's Castle. Turned out the black birds just wanted his candy. Strung his dirty clothes about his bike and took most of his peppermint candy.

Will add that our rental bikes on the Island of St. Marteen would have been robbed if we had not returned. The guys left
