Default Camping on tour

I've arranged for a 19 day vacation this August. I'll be going to Sturgis with a stop-off at Milwaukee and then on the trip back east I was going to drift south into Wyoming and Colorado before heading home. The cost of motel rooms will be expensive and I was starting to consider tent camping while on tour. Here's the question. I've never camped off the back of an Ultra and was sort of looking for suggestions as far as what to try to carry and so on. As far as eats I just figured I'd hit restaurants the entire trip. Any one with experience doing this type of touring I'd appreciate your input. Thanks in advance.

here's one that might be up your alley, don't own one, but it looks handy and easy to set up

A small, lightweight tent, good sleeping bag and something thick to lay on. a few jeans, some shirts, (you will get more of these), your old socks and drawers, (just toss them when done), A folding chair, and some water. Don't forget the Poop paper.

No way. I saw one of those. It's crap. Besides, who needs a tent your bike goes into with you?...to me it's just a bigger tent that you don't need.
I'm getting one of these for ROT in June...

I'll let you know how I like it. The only potential issue I saw is that it's 40 inches long when packed away, but I dont think it will be a big deal to strap onto the tour-pak luggage rack.

If it were me, and i were going to just do it for this one trip....

I would get the 4 man tent from walmart $30, but also buy a can of water repelant and spray the tent seams well... single airmatress from walmart $15 and figure out something for a sleeping bag...cheap bag will take up a lot of space, and ultra pack small will be expensive, like $300... i use a fleese bag i bought somewhere, and it's fine unless it's cold..... use clothes for pillow or get a blow up one...
stay in state parks, they tend to be nicer places than federal ones and not as expensive as KOA's

i always look for flush toilets and hot showers..... there is a moto camp site out there if you google

good luck

I got a small 2 man tent from Eureka, and a Slumberjack Diablo sleeping bag. the sleeping bag is oversized, but not for cold weather. it comes with a compression sack and it packs down to the size of a loaf of bread. the only thing I haven't figured out is a compact air mattress or sleeping pad that works well for me yet.

look at backpackers stuff, they are about the smallest and lightest weights you'll find.

There have been many threads started on the topic of camping gear. Everyone's idea of what you need to be comfortable camping will be different so you might want to read as many of these threads as you can to see where your idea fits in.

After 20+ years in the Army "camping out" my idea of camping is a nice hotel room these days.

40" strapped across the tour pak will block both mirrors. I just carried a 36" chair in a bag and couldn't see ****!

If you are going alone, you have lots of room on that Ultra. You can put a good size bag in the passenger seat, put your tent poles between the pack and the backrest, pad the bottom so they don't damage the seat. That bag should be for your heavier stuff, to keep the weight distribution right. Put your tools and heavies in the bottom of the saddle bags, take the tent out of the bag and fold it and the rain fly to fit the bottom of the bags. Put your light stuff in the tourpac, and a light bag on the luggage rack, tied to the rack so you can open it. Balance the load as best as you can in the saddle bags. Don't forget to up your tire pressure and air shocks. Roll all of your clothes, you can be quite comfortable, that's why the call it the Ultra.
