I suppose when it gets right down to it the weather is the major factor.
Ok Gmidi, I sent him an email. He is pretty good abt getting back timely.

You might want to save it as it does exceed the forum limit for video length and may be removed.
The stuff north of the border starts around the 6 minute mark.

damn… All that video did was make me wanna buy a Pan-Am, & head towards Alaska again… The rumour is is that they’re going to open the border either after the July long weekend, August long weekend, or Labour Day… Even Labour Day wouldn’t be too bad as long as I got up there, and then got the hell out ASAP.

Ok GM, here we go.

THIS is Deek. They guy I logged MANY MANY MANY MANY thousands of miles with and overnights. He has taught me a LOT. "Deek".

.

.
Deek said...........

The Dalton Hwy is paved. Some unpaved sections. Hard pack. Some areas slush and mud then more unpaved then paved. (Oh yeah, that sounds like fine eh?

YES he (Deek) would take his own personal bike. The one above is rented since he flew into AK.

He is not sure abt how late the fuel stops are open.

It appears by the PIX, there is snow on the ground. THAT I would not do. No other stoppers but the snow? Not for me. I need some degree of psychological comfort with traction. Hard pack. Ok. Some mud/slush....understandable. Snow? SNOW?? Again -->

I know MonoGeezer would do it bcs he IS .

Can't catch me. Peeeeeooooooowwwwww...........

Well… Not completely crazy… Although I do wonder what we would’ve done if we had taken shovels… LOL

We were heading over a pass… Still fairly early in the year, and we got stopped right here… It was just after this on our way down the mountain when I dropped my GS, The front tire **** out on me in some very loose rock, and I went down pretty hard …and it took the two of us to right the motorcycle…

I can tell you when I rode it in 2010 both in the Yukon, and NW Territories, the gas sales Stopped at about 2200 hrs and opened up again at around 0700. I was told that’s because there are more animal/vehicle collisions at night. That really didn’t make a lot of sense to me since it never really got dark.
I don’t know whether that is still the case.

At Dease lake they also shut down about the same amount of hours… There was no restaurant there, but there was a large grocery store that had a hot food counter… I bought a couple of sandwiches, which I had for supper… And first breakfast the next day until I got to a restaurant about three hours up the road and had second breakfast there.

Incredible sharing above guys.

FWIW: If I am going on a remote ride, I always bring dry powder milk, dry cereal/oatmeal, paper bowls, plastic spork and maybe something else....oh yeah, Cliff Food Bars.

Sometimes those remote motels as you like know have little to nothing for morn' eats. And coffee, I hope for the best. I do not like instant and sometimes there is not micro.

I take an electric kettle with me… And then collect the prefiled drip coffee filters as I go along… A bit of sugar, a little bit of the white death and it wakes me up anyway.

Here's the hours for the gas station in Dease Lake.

And here's the convenience store located at the gas station
https://www.google.com/maps/place/De...4d-129.9899238

It also lists a phone number if you want to call and check the hours.

Definetly not like the 24 hours stations in NY where I live. Hope the links work.

I stayed at the Northway motel… Decent place, says it has Wi-Fi… But when I was there you could barely get a text message out, And an image was impossible…
