This is an intriguing idea, there's a ferry?

No way, you guys are not residents of Canada and that's still a "WEAPON". Oh that's scary stuff

Sorry again mate but first of all I doubt you'd get anywhere with a concealable firearm. A long gun for hunting maybe, but only if you have a guided hunt booked with a licensed guide/outfitter. As for protection, forget it. They'd seize your piece right there if you told them you have it for protection (or just send you back if you're lucky). We're not allowed to protect ourselves in Canada. That's what a cell phone is for, just call 911 for help. Pretty limp di*k and sad hu?

I'm looking here and so far what I'm seeing is that for two of us (Bellingham to Valdez) with the bike and a cabin could be north of $4k, ouch!

On the return I’d swing out a bit=East and go through the Canadian Rockies.

I have a few friends that might showed interest. But, no real commitments yet. Mrs. TG is on board with me doing it, and certainly isn’t interesting in riding with me, but, maybe fly up to somewhere and rude part with me.

Buzz, what time of year are you thinking of doing it? I’m leaning towards July.

my rough route:

I had cell service in Canada as well.

Also there is only some small sections where the Dalton is "paved" but most of the road to the Arctic Circle were wash board roads with rocks and potholes (the road condition depends on the winter and how bad it gets) but don't expect an easy road there. Also, when the road is wet the muck from the road is slippery and sticks to your bike like glue and you have to keep checking your mirror because semis won't think nothing of it to come blasting by you.

I would encourage everyone to ride to Alaska whether it is solo or with a buddy. You have to follow your dream, without that you will always have regret. I for one will be back, I just won't ride to the Arctic Circle unless it is an adventure bike.

My brother in law and I plan to leave next late June, 2022. We did not do it this year as Canada is still pandemic screwy.

We’ll follow your ride with interest. Are route is pretty well planned. It’s not like there are a lot of options. We are not doing North slope, but Fairbanks to Homer, Valdez to Anchorage, etc. plan to spend two weeks visiting Alaska, then take 36-37 on home.

May through July are nice WX months in Alaska for traveling. It can still snow with mixed rain but infrequently. By late June into early July thunderstorms get going with daily downpours near rising terrain. In late July through August it can rain whenever low pressure systems migrate NE from the SW - Bering Sea area. September can be nice until about the 20th when it can again snow anytime. Areas near Anchorage-Homer get more rain than Fairbanks does. North of the Yukon River - Dalton Highway is cooler and prone to more and early precipitation as Fall approaches. We get maybe a couple weeks of Spring and Fall with green-up in mid April followed by leaf colors in mid-August. Basically 7 months of winter - 4 of Summer - and the rest a transition between them.

Our planning is still cursory but like you say, pathways are limited. It actually looks to me like we're planning around the same time frame. We were hoping to travel up to the Artic Circle sign although information here indicates that could be a real challenge.
