Default Milwaukee area accommodations

Hey everybody.
Me and a buddy are heading to the milwaukee area early August for about 5 nights. We`re not looking to stay downtown. Somewhere within an hour or so. Anybody familiar with the surrounding area that has recommendations on towns i could look at? We don`t need night life. I don`t drink at all(anymore) and he doesn`t drink much.
We`ll probably do air bnb or vrbo but a cool little motel would work too. We really just want to ride and smoke cigars.
Thanks!

Check news reports. Milwaukee is a good place to get killed by hit and run and street racing that goes unchecked.
That said budget plays into choices.
Directions you want to ride also can be a big factor.

Towns west of Milwaukee offer great lodging with good prices. But are still a quick ride in to visit Museum. Also some good riding to west part of the State and return to lodging.
Check Watertown and Johnson Creek area.

Look into places like Menomenee falls, Germantown, Cedarburg, and Thiensville all of them west or north and still pretty much close to Milwaukee.
The way a few drive around here is eye opening, any main road expect the unexpected, running red lights and weaving and speeding, are pretty normal.

it’s my first year here, I have seen all this but never actually felt I was part of it, if that makes sense.

My son and I stayed at the Iron Horse by the museum last year. It was pretty cool.

Yeah I’ve heard about the street racing and crap. We will probably do one downtown day and just ride the rest of the time. I will be looking at all suggestions you guys give and let ya know what we end up doing.
Much appreciated

Downtown the public market is cool, walk some of the river walk, gotta see Bronze Fonz.
every one will tell you drive to Holy Hills, I just did that on Wednesday. Neat ride, but not very far.

We went up for the 120th and did not want to be in Milwaukee. We stayed at Lake Geneva and really enjoyed it. A lot of amazing history there and worth the boat tour of the incredible mansions. Not to mentions a quaint downtown area with lots of good restaurants. It's an easy ride to Milwaukee.

We stayed in Lake Geneva for the 100th H-D Reunion.

I rode through there several years ago (didn't stay) and it still seemed nice and they still have a H-D dealership.

If you want to get close to Milwaukee New Berlin may be an option.
