I'm going to chicago next weekend, 400 miles there, 400 miles back, mainly because I've never been there before, and want to see the sears tower, millenium park, and .. .. that's about all I know of..
Any other suggestions on things to see or do ? I'm not really big on tourist traps like the navy pierre, but I might sneak on a boat for a few hours while I'm there ..
The aquarium right on the lake is nice. The Museum of Natural History has the Lions known as the Tsabo maneaters, that they made the movie "the Ghost and the Darkness" about. Like was said earlier, lots of shops and great resturaunts. If you like thrills, hop in acab during rush hour!
try to stay off the highways. everything is under construction. I'd be a little worried about leaving my bike at any of the places you wanna see. a lot of the pay lots wont let bikes park.
I live downtown Chicago, How long do you plan on being in the city?
Gino's pizza for sure, Mr Beef if you need some grease, The HD store if your the get a shirt from your travels type. If you need any local info feel free to PM me.
sidenote, watch the potholes when ya get in there pretty bad right now.
Which direction are you coming from?
As to the boat there are several right at Michigan Ave and the river. They can be fun and informative. You can take one that goes out on the lake if you like views, the ones on the river though are more informative. If you can, call the the Chicago Architecture Society and see if you can get on their boat tour. That is fantastic. The walking tour is great too.
Al's Italian Beef just north of downtown. Boston Blackie's for a great burger and their garbage salad is great . There are some surface lots just west of the loop that you can park in. if You go north, see the Bahai Temple.
Enjoy Chicago
