In 2008 I came home to Vermont from Sturgis solo - it's about 1800 miles. I made a stop in Milwakee for the HD museum. Going solo is a rush. Go where you want - stop where you want - fast or slow as you want. I did 800 miles the first day and would have done more except the museum was there!

I have done a couple, not long though, about 1k to 2k miles. Nothing to be intimidated about.

I like touring in groups but there is something about riding solo - 'that man and machine' thing I suppose. They are some of my most remembered rides.

Got to be honest with everyone. Last summer I decided to try an Iron Butt here in Alaska with a group of folks that I had never ridden with. My wife had to work and told me to make the ride. Really was bummed about doing it without her since we enjoy riding together on rides other than back and forth to work. I took her advice and made the trip, after the first 100+ miles everyone made me feel like their best friend, respected my skills on the many winding roads. The trip was great, made it with plenty of time to spare but the entire time I truly missed having my shorty sitting on the back of the Ultra. Most of the folks on the ride new something was bugging me and after the ride we discussed it since I did not want to mention it during the ride because I did not want to take a chance on spoiling their ride. After speaking about it most of them agreed that they too wished they had brought their wife, girlfriend and one of the ladies joked about having her husband be her passenger. This summer we are going to do it again, throw in a little different route and I am taking my wife.

If you had people passing you on your right, you should not have been in that lane... Remember, slower traffic keep right.

My first solo trip was on a 883xl.
Went 800 miles all around WI.
This summer I will ride my Heritage. Planning on going to Gettysburg from WI.
I will ride about 600+ miles a day.
Camping along the way.
Solo is such a rush!

I did some serious pushes some of those days, just short of 1,000 miles and some more liesurely. The real kicker is I did it all with no windshield on. I won't make THAT mistake again. I can sure tell I'm not 25 any more!!!
A week in nashville was very good i'll bet. been there had a great time

Gettysburg is my favorite civil war battlefield. Better plan on a couple days just touring it.
Read Bloody Angels if you can.

Of the 5500 miles to Sturgis and back last year, all but 1600 was solo. Loved it. Plenty of battery recharge time.
