Hey, looking for some info/experience. I am leaving Friday for a 10 day trip. The first leg is to get to Lexington, KY from Denver, CO to meet my Dad and I hope to do it in a day and a half. My question is, can I throw my one-man tent up at a Kansas rest stop for a quick night sleep? I don't want to have to plan on staying at a camp ground as I don't know how far I will want to ride after work on Friday, so don't want to be held to a destination. Also have the same question for the following weekend I will be leaving Chicago, IL to return to Denver. Thanks for any help!
Also, any advice of places to see or camp around Macinaw Island, MI or NE part of WI?

It is legal to camp at a Kansas rest stop for one night. Most are setup with an area behind the bathrooms to setup tents and have picnic tables and a place for a fire. I do not know how safe it is, but I'd probably do it.
A part of that pages says: "One nite camping is allowed at Kansas rest areas. They have a separate loop to enter from the rest area parking. This loop is paved, has picnic tables with shelters, a dump station, and a freeze fount for water"
