I was told the other day that northern states ( S.D., N.B., and ?? ) do not have high octane gas but the gas stations sell small packs of Octane booster. Is it cheaper / easier to carry a few bottles or has anyone had trouble carrying them ( I have, had one leak in my tourpack ...) Not sure how my bike will run OK with the 555 cams and low octane or if it is even an issue to worry about.
I know at altitude 85 oct behaves as 87 would for a vehicle. 89 oct just like 91 oct etc. I live at 6000 ft and our unleaded regular is 85. At altitude us whatever grade you normally do. If I was headed down in altitude I'd fill with the higher octane stuff sooner rather than later though.
I worried about this last year in South Dakota. No issues at all. Also found a lot of places with no ethanol in the gas. Also the master tech at Black Hills HD told me to stay away from the Octane boosters. So just ride and enjoy!

When you're at altitude 91 octane is the premium; 85.5 is the regular.
Your bike will be fine with the 91 at altitude. Won't run any differently. I've owned and ridden four different motorcycles in Montana, and the wife another three. They all do fine.
