Florida or Bust
Myself and a couple of buddies are heading to Florida on Jan 17th. We are going to trailer down to South Carolina and then ride the rest of the way. We are from southern Ontario Canada. No snow yet and real mild weather with a lot of rain. We want to ride the east coast of Florida on the way down to the Keys and then back up the west coast. Any info for some interesting stops or cool routes would be greatly appreciated, as well as any info re: bad weather.
Thanks Tom

I assume you are taking A1A in Fl down the east coast. Stop at Bruce Rossmeyers in Ormond Beach. It is about ten minutes out of your way. Neat new store with all kinds of stuff. You may also want to stop at Daytona Speed way and take a tour of the track, about 20 bucks, well worth it.
I just toured northern Fl in Dec. Left trailer and tow vechile in road side storage facility in Gainsville. They charged me for a whole month but I felt safe about leaving the truck and trailer there inside a locked site. Have a good trip and be safe.

A1A is okay but very slow going in some areas. If you hit 295 around Jax, get off on 17S in Orange Park. Ademec's HD is on Wells Ave. Continue down 17, it clears up down near Green Cove Springs. Follow it down to Palatka, then 100 East. You'll hit Route 1 then into Daytona.
Just a short detour on the way down.

Have to stop at Peggy's Corral in Palmetto (Sarasota area on West Coast) on your way back. On Sunday 1/21/2007 (Third Sunday of each month) they draw abig crowd, vendors and$1 Bloody Mary's.

You have got check out Thunder Track Rally. With NASCAR now in Canada, you'll be glad you did. There was a thread on here, but it got deleted. I went to their web site and it looks like a blast! Ever been on a Rally where you get to see a NASCAR race? Site is thundertrackrally.com

I would agree with jward2332 regards the US17 route south from Orange Park to Green Cove Springs. But, I would recommend you cross the St. Johns River there and follow route 13 south along the east bank of the river. Maybe five miles or so you'll see the Outback Crab Shack on the right. It's a good place to catch some local flavor. Follow this route on south through Hastings to East Palatka and then make your cut over to the beach. It is a slow paced ride on a 2-lane, but you will be rewarded with lots of views of the river and nice scenery. Enjoy,
