Once you get to Santa Monica you may want to jump on interstate 10 east to the 405 south until you reach Long beach and then jump back on PCH (pacific coast highway) because PCH goes through some congested crappy and unsafe areas past santa monica. Just my suggestion. Have a safe trip and ride safe.

When you get to north O'side, you will need to jump on I-5 to get thru Camp Pendleton into south Orange County. I would jump on PCH at the Beach Cities exit in south OC whiclh leads you to Dana Point. Go thru DP and you will begin heading north. I recommend taking the Selva exit west to the Salt Creek Beach Park for a short break. You will get an awesome view! SJ Ron

In So Cal it's Pacific Coast Highway, from Santa Cruz into S.F. it's Cabrillo Highway. I believe in Marin county it's Oceanshore Highway, could be wrong though.

This time of year take a look at the cal-trans website for road closures by Ragged Point. http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi

This is the PCH through my neck of the woods.
