Default this will be the longest, HELP please!

Hey all, traveling from Kentucky to Florida for summer vacation, I just got a new bike, 2008 heritage softail classic. I traded my 95 dyna superglide for it. Went to DC last year on the dyna and was sore after the trip was over, 438 miles only stops was for gas only. Got about 250 miles on the new bike, only had it a few days, rides like a Cadillac so to speak. Pretty much used to all the controls and the bike itself. I've only been riding 3 years, this will be my longest trip I've planned, just under a 1000 miles one way. So with all that being said, to help everyone have a better understanding of my question. What would be the most miles, one could do in a day without being sore for a couple days? And other than stopping for gas, every 145 miles, should I stop more frequently? Thanks in advance guys!

First off let me state that everyone is different, and bikes ergonomics make big differences. Also there are Iron Butt runs that people do that are crazy, just check out the web site HERE. That being siad, its not that uncommon to do 500-700 mile days without any real problems. Stop when you feel like it and plan on staying hydrated, drinking water at every gas stop, take your breaks throughout the day and 1000 miles in two days is no problem.

This time of year I would get some good under garments and a seat pad, sheepskin or something.
Your can get under armour type at Target or Wally World. I use the long briefs and long sleeve shirts in the hot sun.
Good Luck and be safe

Thanks glide2meetu, gives me a better understanding. The quote by T.S. Eliot, pretty suiting.

No way anyone can answer that question for you.
Only you know how much you ride regularly.
How comfortable are you riding a bike?
Have you set up the bike to fit you?
etc.

What made you sore or where were you sore the last time you rode a ways?

FarmBoy has great tips. Compression shorts and ditch the underwear is a must.

As far as your specific question. If you are riding to get somewhere:
Ride tank to tank (about 150 miles). Gas and go. You can't ride fast enough to make up for time wasted on a stop.
Keep water on the bike to stay hydrated.

And, you don't have to crazy to ride an Iron Butt... (but it helps)

Jonesee, I rode my 95 dyna with 12'' apes and a badlander seat, shoulders, back and butt was very sore. Just got the 2008 heritage, haven't rode far yet on this bike, as far as adjustment's and custom comfort goes, factory bike fits me almost perfect. We're all a little crazy, ill look in to the iron butt! thanks!

Farmboy gave you good advice.
compression shorts.
sheeps wool
pull your bars back to make them easy to reach and in a natural postion
move your feet between mid-pegs, forward-pegs, and passenger-pegs.
throttle lock is almost a necessity
I wear two white long sleeve t-shirts, one over the other
full face modular helmet
ear plugs
sunblock

The more comfortable you are, the farther you will ride.

Didn't say the people were crazy but some of the rides are pretty cool/crazy. I've done iron butt days when I was younger and didnt know of the organization. I would love to do some now and if that certifies me as crazy well I guess I'll have the badge to show 'em
