I am thinking that I may tap the rivet holes with a 10-32 and use a screw and fiber washer for now. That cover is limited in numbers and they are more than five bucks each so I would not want to damage it and I would be able service the ignition easily. I also found a AMF NOS license plate assembly with the correct reflector on it so I will not have to use a later style reflector. I moved so I have a boat load of things to do to the house but I am doing a few small things on the bike for now. It is hard for me to stay away from this FXS for too long.
Got my NOS plate bracket with the reflector and put it on along with a vintage plate. Here in TN a vintage plate and antique plate has a one time charge so one does not have to pay a yearly registration fee. Another detail finished.
My 82 the points cover has the rivets at 12 and 6 o'clock which is a tough one to find plus its has s small black pin stripe on the silver raised ring. Was 81 different?
Here is a update picture for twinky dude. The guy with out the man bun.
I bought this back pad used and cheap. It is close to what came on it originally and will have to do until I find a really nice OEM.
I was cruising the bay and found a NOS pad. I was surprised a few of these showed up for sale, only used for 3 years. I seem to find some of this stuff when I am not really trying.
Got some more good parts for my project. A NOS master cylinder to replace the last of the aftermarket chrome stuff. NOS handle bar control wiring with the gray covering and the right side with the HD switches. And a minty switch with 2 AMF crisp keys. Been looking for a switch with keys that were not like worn out coins. Been busy with the house but I hope to be doing some actual work on the bike soon.
Couldn't take it anymore. Just been so long that I did any work on the bike I just had to do something so I put the master cylinder on. A lot more fun than the house projects but now I have to go back to them.
@Ken45 Did your year come with the seat strap? I noticed it on some of the originals you were shown. My 83 FXSB had one I took off and don't use, it's yours FREE if you like, new condition.
This is the one.

Reason: added pic
Then I ran into the NOS harnesses that were reasonably priced plus I do not need to buy crimping tools that I would only use once so I am money ahead in the long run plus being OEM. All I have to do is solder switches on the one harness and I have a good soldering gun.
I hope to find a HD main harness but I may have to go repop. Even my car restorations got new wiring.
