It has been about 6 months since I cleaned the oil tank and put in a new oil filter and oil. I started it and ran it a bit but it has been siting ever since. Yesterday for the heck of it I decided to check the oil level to see how much had drained down to the crank case. Much to my surprise the level had not gone down, would be nice if this is the normal way forward. Time will tell. I am getting ready to move so I will be shipping the bikes to their new home and once I am settled I will be looking forward to working on this FXS again.
I had found a set of these foot peg end caps at an old small shop up in the finger lakes NY area that a friend told me about. No computer, just a phone and the purchase had to be done all by mail. The owner told me that they were sitting in his display case for over 30 years with no box. Last week I was digging around on line looking at different web sites and buried in a section that was marked frames I found a NOS set in the box and I got them the other day. I am quite pleased I found them. Think that I now have the common accessories for this bike. I put a set on my FX and will have to get it out side for some pictures.

heres a 1981 that looks pretty much in original unrestored condition , i included a close up of the rear reflector position it looks like it sits just about half way over the fender strut bolt , i put my reflector on my fender after the fender was installed to get it in the right position !
the European models have yellow rear reflectors in stead of red ones . . .
here you can see that the reflector sits just about centered above the fender strut bolt . . .
My 82 the points cover has the rivets at 12 and 6 o'clock which is a tough one to find plus its has s small black pin stripe on the silver raised ring. Was 81 different?
