Bending a shovelhead kicker
but I need it there to turn the motor over when setting the tappets & for setting the Magneto,
A part of being disabled because og Hip Pelvise & knee injurys, I cannot easily sit on the ground, jack the bike up & turn it over by leaving in gear & turning the wheel by hand,
having a kicker to do these things is easier,
& as I said it looks better, I have an original Jammer finned kicker cover that I went through the various grades of wet & dry paper for days & took it from the original sand cast finish to a high polished finish and wouldnt want to change it for the ugly cover you showed,
all i originally wanted to know was if the kicker was made of Cast Steel, or Forged Steel,
if cast I wouldnt have been able to heat & bend it without cracking,
I later found that they are Forged Steel and as so can be re-shaped,...
to be honest, a bit of information I had thought someone here would have known from past experiance, obviously I was wrong,
as it is now, it fits, looks good & even though I will not be kicking it over, others can without it snapping on them, so not a waste of time & I still retain the style & looks that I built the bike with...
Short version: its a 45 (W) bottom end with an Iron XL top end grafted on, it is not a simple task and requires considerable machine work
The 3 speed W transmission is shown
Many have been attempted, fewer have been completed ( esp. not as tasty as the one above
Google it for the full history and details
Most famous proponent was a
drag racer named Randy Smith

then rebuilt it with a new ball bearing, Spring, circlip & pivot pin,
so I greased it up and assembled it & fitted it to the bike,
now it fold's in & out with a smoothe & positive click locking action,
it now sits perfictly and does not interfer with either my leg or the Exhaust,
it's brought it inboard nicely and no longer stabs me in the leg, well happy with how it turned out.
