chop the strut in 2 places 1 in front of the second last hole and 1 behind then reweld them useing the rear section
I don't have a welder, but I think chopping the strut at the back where i have it marked in the pic should work. I'm planning to grind and smooth/round it out.

I pulled all the wiring for the lights out and is just laying there right now. That's not any kind of electrical hazard, right? Just want to make sure.
Your bike has all kinds of potential, but chopping it up seems like a harsh way to go on a pretty complete bike (guess you can't go back on your fender).
