Kind of odd that this thread showed up. I was just contemplating buying this. Back in the day we call them mini bikes.

I always get a chuckle out of dudes calling sportys ''girls bikes''

My big Sis with her 1981FXB taken in 1983

on her way from the westcoast of Australia to the east coast.....a trip she did three times........one of the reasons i knew a shovel is the real deal

This is not a girls bike - it's been my inspiration since I was 12.

I have everything I need to build my tribute bike, except time.

G'day Bill.
And how many times did Caz ride from Perth to Sydney (3900Km, 2400 miles)? I know of 3 times.

My Ironhead was horrible in many ways, I am glad I don't have it anymore....but, it got me on a Harley for 3 grand, when 3 grand was all I had.

And yet the later 883 Sporties had a really weak clutch spring, so that girls could ride them, have to upgrade the spring when doing a 1200 conversion.

3 times and a trip to Carnarvon 1000mls round trip plus all those Milton Mongrel rides we used to do all over southern NSW back in the 80s

About everybody I knew cut their teeth on a piglet at some point. Few crazies I met in Colorado Springs from New York and back Jersey way rode the same early 60's sportsters them till we buried them. I'll joke with the piglet crack but I will never diss one due to what I've seen guys do with them including one crazy 23 yr old big chinese kid who took a late 80's 4 speed I put a rear belt and 1200 kit in and rode that thing from the Bay area up through Sturgis, into and across Canada to Alaska to Fairbanks and back. Those bikes got more ***** than most riders will use.

I bought this 1991 1200 new in 1991 with my father. Inherited his half after his passing, has about 25k miles on the odometer. I would guess the first 20k got there before 2000. I do not ride her much, but when I do I remember how much fun they are and nice to have in the fleet for every once in a while. I rode this two up with my girlfriend, now wife, from NYC to Buffalo, Cleveland and then back across Pennsylvania. 10 day trip, stopped to do laundry once. We were a lot smaller then and did know any better.

Bike will be 35 next year my plan is to bring her to the AMCA meet at Oley PA, her first year eligible. Then to Reading MC to rip her down their 1/8 drag strip. I often think about selling her to some young guy that will put another 20k miles on her, but then I get sentimental. Doesn't cost me anything to keep her and she always starts right up. I broke down about 3 years ago and got new tires, between me and my brother we guessed the tires on there were from the 90's. Almost got killed on her in 1991 by an old man who thought he could blow a stop sign and beat me through an intersection, but I am still here.

Funny I could have sold her about 20 years ago for $3k, today I probably would get the same $3k.
