Default My new 83 FLHT

Hey all. Just picked up an 83 FLHT Shriner bike. 22K original, no smoke, runs and looks like new.
Was wondering....best oil, best primary, best tranny fluid you all use. Thought I'd turn to the experts first.
Glad to be here....

I use all MOCO fluids. Did stray for awhile using champion spark plugs and off brand fluids but I am back to MOCO. Why not?

Hey Butcher congrats on the 83 FLHT. If the motor lubrication is still routed into the primary, which I assume it may be with an unmolested shovel, you may want to change that. If so, right now your motor oil is plumbed into your primary and back. That is why the life on shovel was short lived due to that engineering design...you have clutch dust into your oil and then into your motor. If it has a chain(may have a belt on your83, the final drive has an oiler to the chain. In the primary, ifyou change the oil system, I stay with MOCO using Primary Formula+ as the clutches and primary chain do well on that... Then in the tranmission, and motor.....that is where you will numberous opinions.... I will reserve my opinion....

Later

Congratulation with the new Bike [8D]
I've ran AreoShellin my Shovel since I've owned it Looks like they changed the label.
the Wt. will depend on your riding conditions and time of year {how hot it is} in your area.
gear oil in the trans and my primary is dry.
Lets see some images of your shovel head.

Thanks guys for the replies....I have to check if the primary is plumbed into the engine oil system....not sure yet....no time with work and all. I have the factory manual and all that jazz. I'll post pics asap. She has 22K original and looks showroom new....I am so proud and so glad to be out of the "shiney new pretty motorcycle" scene.

[sm=ttiwwp.gif]just welcoming you to the shovelheads.
I hate to have to admit this but I have for over 25 years used Valol. 50w and 60w. I do this because that is all that I have found since I have owned this machine. At least I have run an oil cooler and paper oil filters. The benifit of this has been I don't have to worry about plugging the lifter screen like the factory spun fiber glass did. Dry primary, Primo belt, and gear oil in the trans.

The link I gave was incorrect for the Areoshell I'm using this is the W100 plus grade
I can't seem to find the product that is NOT "plus" which I have been running? Makes be wonder if they are not making it any more? I do know I had quite a time getting the last case of W100.
