Here's a pic of mine after it failed. Notice the center cog in the upper left corner? The center was torn completely out of the shell. Crazy part is that it started and ran that morning and died in the lot of Black Hills HD in the afternoon.

Last time I rode it it wasn't charging again and there was noise coming from the primary so I suspect it's failed again.
Dang! Thats quite the carnage. I had the perfect oppirtunity to upgrade my puny 22 amp stator about 5 years ago when my clutch hub split and i had everything apart, but i was sick of spending money after i bought clutch parts so i picked the shrapnel out of my rotor and threw it back together lol.

Do you have to pull the inner primary to get the rotor and stator out on all evo's or is that just another joy of owning an early evo?

When I put a new 32 amp stator in my 1996 evo I just pulled the outer primary and used two pieces of bent welding rod to pull the rotor off of the stator(knock the flux off first, 3/32 rod). If you finagle it right and pull the chain tensioner you should be able to slide the chain on without pulling the clutch.

I checked my service manual this morning and yep, its only 84-88 models that you have to pull the inner primary on because its shaped different..... If only i knew then what i know now i would've steered clear of the 80s when buying a bike lol.

Finally got around to sliding the cylinders on and torqing the heads down. Everything was going well untill i started inspecting my rocker arms and shafts.

I noticed some wear on my rocker arm shafts so i pulled out my caliper and sure as heck they are out of spec.... My rockers show just enough wear that instead of having new bushings installed i think i will just get a new set.

So here is my question. With a .560 lift cam should i be looking into a set of roller rockers? A set of s&s non rollers are reasonable but their roller rockers are insane expensive. I know my valves and guides would appreciate a set of rollers but is there an affordable option that would be reliable?
