Breakout wheel change problems
I know the original wheel works. It was on there for two years. And before this change took place I put it on to go get a sticker(when I first started doing the CVO rim change). So I know that one is perfect. I have the sprocket off it now because I was measuring it against the new one days ago.
Tonight I'm switching sprockets and if the noise is still there the original rim will be back on. I have to ride this weekend. I can't stand having it on a jack for weeks. Actually I just want to see if my old sprocket slides onto the new rim easily(like it should). if not I'll do some more measuring.
Bad part about using my old rims is the tires are bald. The CVO has new skins on it. And it takes a couple week to get them mounted around here. Everyone "is busy".
But I'll let you know
Sorry Jersey another late night.
But it's fixed !!!!!!!!! (sort of)
Put on the old sprocket and drove it about 30 miles and not a peep. But I still have to figure out the exact problem. But that's up to me. You guys have helped unbelievably!!!!! The new rim sprocket lip is too wide. I attached pic's showing the old versus the new. I got home and placed my cvo sprocket onto my old rim lip and it fell on like the original does. Which told me my CVO rim's lip was too wide. But I still put the old sprocket on my new cvo rim. And I had to press it on again(by tightening it down with the bolts). So theoretically it still shouldn't work but it does. Maybe they have different metal properties???? I still think it's my sprocket being too tight on the bearing hub and not allowing it to expand. But putting on the old sprocket which is still a press fit should cause the sound to still be there? But again, I will worry about it now. I have my CVO sprocket being machined right now to fit over the lip like it should. But it is either the Rim or sprocket that is defective. I have a ugly black sprocket on my beautiful chrome rims but at least I can ride!!!!!!!!!! Thanks all again
I do have one question though maybe you guys know? why does my sprocket have one hole tapered? I just noticed this. And can't figure out why??? Does anyone know why?
The new wheel sprocket hub OD is obviously just a little larger, and machining the new sprocket hub ID should sort it out, IF that was preventing it from going all the way home.
How do the two sprockets mounting hub thickness compare?
Don't know what that countersunk hole is about.

I never measured the hub thickness. But I put both on a flat bench side by side. And the inside of the lip that the belt rides against was the exact height. which should be the most important part. Is that why you were asking about that measurement??? to see if the belt location would be the same? if so it is.
I actually deal with machine shops at my work. And one took it this morning and is doing it professionally for me.
that lip is too short to effect the bearing I think. But like everything else with this problem you never know.
I just talked to my Harley guy and he seems to think it's just my old belt on the new sprocket(I have 10K on it). Once machined I will put back on and ride this time. I will ride till it either starts to get better or worse. But thank god we know what it basically is now. This has been the worst few weeks of my life!!! I can't wait to clean the thing. It is destroyed right now.
Anybody going to Laconia? If so see you up there. I'll be the breakout with chrome rims and a black sprocket.....haha

From my personal experience as long as the correct side of the sprocket is facing outward that is all that matters. But who knows.
Glad you made some progress.
