Detachable windshield installation question

I went to the dealer the other day, all the Deluxe shields fit just like that, the hook is completely useless. On the Road King and other models the hook is longer and hooks against the mounting peg like it does on my Springer.
Very odd the Harley would waste money and time installing a hook that is completely useless. I guess that shield must be usable for other models, thought I couldn't find another shield with that short hook except for on the Deluxe models. Odd.
