We tested dozens of different bulbs, both halogen and LED, over an 8 month period.
Here is a LINK to what we found to be the best value for drop-in bulbs.
The Daymaker from HD is the best light we tested...but at $500 it is 7 times the price of one that, in our on-the-road-experience, is 90% as good.
Here are a few pics-
I bought an led drop in from DK for my Slim and have no complaints. Had to adjust the light down a bit to keep from blinding oncoming traffic, this may have been in part because I just dropped the back of the bike 2".
According to my wife and a few riding buddies the daytime visibility of the bike is much improved from all angles. It lights up the road and shoulder MUCH better at night. Half of my riding is after dark on backroads so the increased field of view is very nice, IMO its a good investment.
Just installed the LED headlight I got from eBay. Looks to be built very well. Man, what a difference. Cooling fan comes on imediatly when you turn the key on. Definitely will be more visible during the day. If it doesn't work out, it was a small investment. I know I'll get a year, that's the warranty.
A lot of us have gotten good results by replacing the stock 60/55 bulb with a 80/100 watt "offroad" bulb. About ten bucks, and way brighter than Silver Star.
The Truck-lite is probably the best deal in LED's (http://www.drivetrainamerica.com/tru...gler-cj-tj-jk/), but the LEDs tend to be very directional, and can't be seen very well other than straight-on during the day.
Hey Warp, I'm wondering if you have had any heat issues in the can, i.e. melted connectors, with the increased wattage? Thanks
