Default curiosity question...

I suppose this should be in the engine section but.... what would 100 octane gasoline do in a stock motor? '07 96.

I ran some 95 octane in it this weekend and it absolutely luv'd it. Ran very smooth. Where I bought it sells 100 octane also. I was kinda under the impression that might be for more modified motors.... but not really sure.

Performance wise you might not see a difference.

As the temperatures go up this summer it is best to run the highest octane you can find if you live in a hot climate. Air cooled motors run so hot that they can preignite the fuel and that can damage the motor.

The higher the octane the slower the fuel burns. It wont hurt anything to run it but all the fuel may not burn before the motor starts to push it out the exhaust. It just wastes alittle of the potential energy of the fuel.

Where does the 100 octane come from? If it is aviation fuel, it will have a lot of tetraethyl lead in it, and your bike's fuel and ignition system is designed for lead-free fuel. A little lead is OK, it helps lubricate the valve seats, but a lot of it is not good. And if you have a cat convertor, you will quickly destroy it with leaded fuel.

Any octane that does not cause pinging will be fine for your engine. A lot of Harley engines run fine on medium or low octane, especially in cool weather.

This isn't aviation fuel. It is lead free. Our local dealer put in a pump when he built his new building and just started selling the gasoline. He is carrying 3 flavors. 87, 95 and 100 octane. The 95 cost me 4.30 a gallon... I don't remember the 100 but I think it was a dollar more.

My bike really liked that 95 octane though. Ran alot better than with 91 octane.
