Hey guys. Im running a 2012 blackline 103 with vance and hines big radius 2 into 2 exhaust, stage 1 cleaner and a v&h fuel pack2. I ride a lot of 2 up and am looking to get a little more power out of the 103. I ride mostly between 2k-4k rpm never really higher then 4k, that's usually my shifting point when im getting on it.usually cruise around 2-3k. I am thinking of picking up some cams but im not sure the best route. I dont need anything crazy but would like some more get up and go when i want to pass or just get on it. I think i will get the new fuel pak as well since you can custom tune it and it has the auto tune feature to it.
A nice bump in power all the way through would be nice, dont want it to fall on its face as i do hit 90+ semi frequently. I am in ca as well
What are your guys take on cams?
Any decent bolt on cams that will get what i want without head work?
Everybody has their favorite cams. The andrews 57H is a good drop in for the 103 but it pulls hard way past 4K. If you like to shift at 4K you might look at andrews 48 or woods 222
I run a 57H in a 103 with d&d 2 into 1 and a dk 636 breather, I really like it. It has good power down low but you can really feel it kick in around 2700 and it pulls hard up to 5500 or so. The only reason I recommended the 48's is because you stated that you rarely go past 4000 rpm and want more power down low. A friend of mine runs 48's in his 103, very strong on low end.
You might also consider a gearing change, a 68t rear pulley will give you a little more low end power and you wont have to change belts. The 70t pulley would be better but requires a longer belt. These are only my opinions, I am sure others will chime in.
Ahh ok. Im really liking what im reading on these 57h cams.
On top of cams what should i change out?
Im assuming adjustable push rods,
Better cam bearings.
How about tuner? I currently have the fuel pak 2.
How about this cam...better than the 57 up top and better than the 48 down low. 103 stock heads.
Not sure how that is better than a 57H on top. Unless you compare bikes with the same exhaust, ran on the same dyno in the same conditions you cant really make that claim. Some dynos are "happy" Quite a few 103's with 57H cams and dragos exhaust have went 99 or 100 hp and 115 torque SAE with stock heads. My 57H went 96hp and 114 torque SAE, 5th gear pull in a B motor with stock heads, would have been a little more power in an A motor.
Is this chart you show STD or SAE, what gear, what cams and exhaust?
Very possible, happens all the time on a LOT of different dynos. Pretty common for a 57H (or a tman 555 torquester, or SnS MR103 to name a few) with decent 2:1 exhaust. I stand corrected on my numbers, I gave the STD numbers, here are the SAE. The early dip is due to my baffle, tuner tried to talk me into putting a different can on (supertrap) to take away the dip but I like my noisy pipes.
