Well there I was, wondering aimlessly through the countryside, when WHAM, something blew. '07 Deuce with 36,000. Bike started bucking and clunking from the rear. First thought was the belt - like teeth had blown off. Wasn't the case. Next thought was the clutch, so trailered the bike home.
Put it on the lift and drained the primary and tranny fluids. Clean as a whistle. Not even fuzz on the magnets. Pulled the primary case and clutch. Everything looks good, and everything spins free with no lateral movement.
Headed out this morning to drop the rear wheel and pull the belt. Barring anything there, I'm leaning toward the tranny.
But would welcome any thoughts you may have.
Thanks,
Frank

Broken wheel hub bolt(s) and flew off as you rode?
I believe I'm now a candidate for Dumbass of the Month (if not the year). I did pull the rear wheel and checked everything, including bearing and all attachments - all good. Peaked into the tranny and saw nothing but clean smooth gears. Really pleased with the wear.
Anyway, all I could figure is that the belt was too loose and jumping teeth. I tightened it up at the tight end of the limit, took it for a spin, and it ran just fine.
