I've seen a couple of Chops and custom builds using the swingarm to mount one Heritage Softail OEM Saddlebag on the drive side of the bike. I really like the look and functionally, it will work with all the other stuff i have in the works for the *** half of my bike this winter.
Obviously, this is not a direct fit operation, so I was looking to get some ideas from you guys as to the plausibility of all this. My thought is to mount a plate to the swingarm and run longer bolts through the belt guard and other bolts already in existence down there, in addition to maybe one or two u-bolts plated on both sides of the saddlebag. Some holes would have to be drilled into the saddlebags as well.
Looking for other ideas, or improvements to my concept. I understand their are other options that are much easier such as a traditional solo bag or what have you. I'm not looking for opinions on the look, I'm after thoughts or tips on making this possible and safe.
The belt guard mount on the swingarm is not very significant...my '03 just came loose and I have to re-weld it....I've seen some smaller/slimmer bags that mount on there...
Good luck.
