Just ordered V&H true duals for my 2k Heritage. Do the V&H require a different exhaust port gasket? Go with stock HD? Cometic? What have you guys used that don't leak? Only want to do it once! Any helpful tips from those who have done the install are welcome. Thanks!
i just re-installed my VH radius pipes using flat copper washer gaskets- sealed right up fine. You'll probably be good with any of the above mentioned choices.
^^ in my VH manual they recommend VH gaskets (of course) or the SE gaskets. "NOTE: Replacement gaskets HD Screaming Eagle #17048-98 or
equivalent."
My V&H installation instructions read:
Carefully remove exhaust port flanges and circlips from the stock exhaust system using snapring pliers. NOTE: Replace bent or damaged circlips. Check exhaust port gasket condition. Recommended replacement exhaust port gaskets, Harley part number:17048-98 or 65324-83A.
yep- all of them are going to work fine as long as they are installed and tightened correctly. i personally hate the mesh gaskets as they are a PITA to remove and they fling steel fibers everywhere. be sure to wad up some tape and stick it into the exhaust port first so that stuff does not get into the motor. I always use the flat copper disc gaskets whenever I can. I put a thin coating of permatex copper gasket maker on them to hold in place in the exhaust port when attaching the pipes.
Mine is still using the stock tapered gaskets that came in the motor brand new in 2002. I've changed the pipes 4 times. 3 different pipes (V&H, stock exhaust and Patriot) on it in the last year. No leaks. With that said, I keep a new set of stock tapered gaskets in my tool box.
