Hey guys,

Just picked my new 2016 Harley Davidson breakout up a couple of weeks ago. Weathers finally been picking up around here (60's on the weekends), and I've been able to put about 150 miles on her so far! Enjoying the time on the bike, cant wait for the mods i've got planned.

This is my first Breakout, first Harley, honestly this is my first ever motorcycle. I had ridden dirtbikes my whole life, and rode around on a Big Dog a couple of times. I actually started my hunt looking at big dogs in my area. Made the "mistake" of popping into my local HD store to see if they had any used choppers. I was shown this Breakout, and later was shown a pretty heavily modded one in some photos they had done for another customer. I was hooked! Went to the service department and started building my dream bike. 3 weeks later, papers are signed and i have my bike to ride around until the wheels get in. They will take it for about a week and return my one of a kind breakout to me! I cant wait.

What i've got going on the bike through Harley:

23" front wheel, with new matching 18" rear (Perfmormance Machine Contour Revel) wrapped with Metzelers
Matching breather and brake parts w/ wheels (going contrast cut with these parts)
14" Carlini Menace Apes
All black triple trees, raked 5* for the bigger front wheel
New headlight housing
New handle bar controls
Lowering the rear
V&H Big Radius 2-2 Black
Screamin Eagle Pro Super Tuner

Options I held off on, to complete outside of Harley Davidson:
*In order of significance*
Removing the horn, belt guards, reflectors and badges
Clear turn signal lenses
Curved license plate bracket
Blackline center console
2" Open Primary

I cant wait to get all this on. Although, I have a couple of questions regarding some last minute tweaks I may want to do.

-What is the widest rear tire I can use with the 18" wheel? I know the Breakouts are fitted with the 240mm. But ive seen guys using a wider one without the Heartland Kit?
-Should I ask to switch to the Pirelli's? Any exact size I should ask for with the front?
-The bike is going to be all Black, minus the chrome wheels. I know some people have alot of opinions on colors and schemes. This is what i'm going with, one of a kind look. I am going to be changing the seat out as well. Distressed tan (Bring on the boo's) I do like having the option of the bolt on pillion pad though. Is this still an option with custom seats? Or will I have to go to the lick-n-stick?
-I am 5'8", with average arm length. Will I have an issue with the 14" apes?
-Any additions you fine gentlemen think I am missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys! Welcome to the build, ill keep everyone updated as I go!!

I will post starting photos as soon as I'm able to. I tried posting this on Friday but for some reason it did not post, so I'm holding off on the photos for now.

Sweet. Posted this time! Here are the starting photos for the Breakout!

The Metzeler ME880 260 works fine on the stock 18'' rear rim and the stock rear fender. Not sure about the PM rim.

I haven't seen an aftermarket solo seat that works with the stock (or other HD) pillion. If you want to maintain the stock pillion or any other HD pillion for the BO you might want to think about having your stock seat modified to your liking by a local upholsterer...but make sure to maintain the two bolts to bolt the seat on.

Congrats on the new bike. You will have to get a few more posts in before you can post up a pic but looking forward to seeing the bike when you are able to.

Nice! Please send us pictures and info along the way. I did the same, bought my first Harley about a year ago. Rode Kawasaki before (sport bike). Saw the Breakout on the showroom floor and thought "this is trouble" I loved the bike. But everyone has different tastes, so I would never criticize anyone for what they like.

Here are my modifications:
>> Chrome turbine wheels from HD (just really liked the looks of them)
>> V&H 2 into 2 (chrome) - Sound great and look awesome
>> Screaming Eagle Chisel Extreme Billet Air cleaner
>> Street performance tuner kit
>> Edge cut controls (all around)
>> Sundowner seat
>> New derby covers, and added miscellaneous chrome
>> Removed reflectors on the forks and frame
>> All my work done at the dealer with no complaints

I like lots of chrome, bike is Charcoal Grey (2015). On my second set of tires (yes, they wear out quick). Kept the stock Dunlop 240/40 on the bike. Lots of opinions out there on this, but talk to the folks at the shop, they will install another brand, but remember the shape and profile of the tire when you make your choice. The Metzeler 260/40 will fit along with the Dunlop Elite 250/40, but it is the shape that is really different, the tire looks the same to me from the back (just my humble opinion). My dealer said they have done both of these before for people. Bike is plenty fast enough for me with lots of torque. Can't see ever getting rid of this bike. The Harley Forum is a great source of info.

Thanks for the responses guys! How many posts do I need before I can post the pics? Got around to removing the reflectors, belt guards and HD logos on the tank. All went relatively easy, dumb me tried to use an insulated flathead though for the first HD emblem, scratched the clearcoat and paint on the right side. Oh well, live and learn. I used some wooden kabob skewers for the other side and it worked perfectly!!

Cant wait to upload the photos!

Ya, a lot of us running the Metz 260 on our BO's and it fits fine...I'm happy with my 16" Menace apes and I'm 5'10, I have them in line with my forks and my hands are at about chin level when I sit up straight, and that's good for me, so at 5'8" the 14" bars should work about the same for you, If that's to high go shorter, or you can pull them back more, but I don't think they look as good back...fishing line and goo gone work best to remove reflectors and tank badges...

Thanks Rocker B,

I saw a post about running the Pirelli's instead of the Metzler's. Is this just personal preference?

Also, LOVE your bike. Alot of my ideas came from yours! What kind of seat did you install? Looks great, ever ride 2 up?

Recommend blocking out a few hours to read the forums. Lot of folks used a heat gun (or a simple hair dryer) to loosen up the glue then used fishing line to get the emblem off. Screw drivers are no good (no offense). You can probably buff out the scratch with a buffing tool. I had a scratch under my rear pillion, took it to the dealer on a Saturday afternoon and they buffed it out for me (no charge).

Both tires are very good, the Pirelli only comes in a 240, if you want wider go Metz..My seat is a Danny Gray Stingray Butt Crack solo, I rarely ride two up, Danny Gray made a custom pillion for mine that works with the stock mounts, after making it, they said they might start offering them... not sure if they did??

The Pirelli is lighter (Pirelli 240/40 is ~ 17lbs) vs the Dunlop 240/40 at ~ 22lbs. Pirelli is 23% lighter. Some guys think this is a big deal, the weight is coming out of the sidewall on the Pirelli. Pirelli makes a good tire based on everything I have seen or heard.
